Hi, Armywife, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined in. We do have a wonderful group of members that love to help one another and we really do care about each other, too. I think you will like it here.
It is important to keep moving and stretching or you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. Gentle exercises like walking and swimming are very good for fibro. There are some gentle stretching exercises in Fibro 101 that really do work, too.
Hot showers and baths feel wonderful. Many use a Bed Buddy. You can find these at Walgreen's and other places or you can make your own by taking a tube sock, filling it 2/3's full of raw long grain rice, and tying a knot at the end. Pop it in the microwave and it will give off moist heat due to the moisture in the rice.
I take malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 supplements and they do help with my pain and fatigue. Many with fibro seem to be deficient in these vitamins and nutrients. The supplements don't work for everyone but they might work for you. Pass this by your doctor. There are links in Fibro 101 about the malic acid and vitamin D3 and how they work in the body.
As Marlee said, stress is our enemy. Try not to stress over your husband's deployment. You can't do anything about it so worrying will only make your pain worse. You will be amazed what you CAN do. Look at all the positive things in your life, starting with a loving husband and three beautiful children! Look at all you can do, not what you have problems doing. Believe it or not, a positive attitude is a huge help with this illness...that and a good sense of humor.
Just take one day at a time. We all can handle that. Don't project yourself in the future. One day is enough. Plus, we sure don't know what the future holds for us, either, so why worry about something that hasn't happened! Look forward to each new day with anticipation. With fibro, we have our good days and our bad days. Every day I look forward to a good day and this way, my bad days aren't nearly as bad!
Don't hesitate to ask questions. We are here to help you. I hope to hear more from you soon.
