Hi

Hello, this will probably be all over the place sorry, this is really hard for me to do. A bit about me, im 28 this year, i got diagnosed with fibro about 2 years ago but i first went to the doctors for pain when i was about 10.
I got through school ok with the pain and stuff, just missed the odd day here and there. When i finished i mainly worked in heavy labour type jobs like concreting, yeah smart, i know lol. I worked very hard until my body gave out on me, i tried a few lighter work options after that but i was wrecked and had to stop working and have continued to get worse ever since.
Ive been to many doctors and specialists, ive tried alot of medications which either dont help or make me sick. Im in so much pain all the time its hard to do everyday things and even get through the day. I hardly sleep, went 8 days without sleep not long ago. I throw up pretty much everything i eat and am apparently fairly thin. Im depressed all the time, i cant remember the last time i was happy, i drink to much and am unwell on my current medication. The thing that makes things even more difficult is i have a severe social anxiety problem, the only thing i leave the house for these days is the doctor and thats not often. I tried to help this by making friends online and i put everything i had into the friendships but because of the way i am it seems ive lost them.
Sorry for the rant, i feel like a sook now lol but is good to get it out. I apologize if i dont post again but this one took so long to build up the courage to do. Thank you for reading.

Hello. SOunds like you have had a rough go of things. It is hard to build a quality life when dealing with that. I do think that quitting drinking would go a long way towards making you feel a bit better, but I know it is hard to do. I don't have nearly as much pain as you do, so I can't say I understand about that, but as someone who has hardly slept for the past three days (and has two active children under the age of four) I know how debilitating just the fatigue alone can be. And I would never leave my house if my family obligations and work didn't force me to. I look terrible lately, too much food and not enough sleep have left me looking puffy and pale and always like I am severely hung-over. I can't stand having people look at me anymore! So I understand the social aspect. But it is important for you to work on trying to feel better. Do you have any hobbies? I find a good hobby can make you feel pretty good. Even if it hurts to do it! i knit even when my arms and wrist and neck are killing me, because I just can't put the needles down! Maybe you should try to find ways to be creative. The bonus is it can keep your mind from focusing on the pain, and you can end up with something nice to keep or to give away to a friend or charity. Even if you just take up whittling little toys for neighborhood kids, you would be giving yourself a warm sense of usefulness and accomplishment, and from what you say, you could use it! I hope you do write back. Don't worry about ranting, when you start to feel a bit better about yourself, you will be able to help others here rant themselves!

Good morning, Wulver! I'm so glad that you decided to join us. I lurked here for awhile before I joined, I wanted to see what kind of ppl were here. I had never been on the 'net before and wasn't sure I would like it. I saw that ppl were very kind, since I've come here I have found that the ppl here are so wonderful. They share info, but mostly they share from the heart. It makes such a difference.

You do have courage, you have been living w/ pain since at least the age of 10. Sometimes you don't realize the amount of strength you have within you, BUT it's there.

I have a very hard time w/ meds, they don't work or they make me sick. I am on NO rx meds for Fibro, I take Tylenol Arthritis and PM, they don't take away my pain, nor do I sleep like a baby, but they don't make me sick. lol I suffer from chronic nausea, I take Reglan for that. The problem is the med makes me sleepy, so I can't take it and drive or anything I must be alert for, but it does help w/ the nausea.

Most of us find that exercise helps us. Now, I'm not talking training for the Olympics, most ppl walk or swim. I can't swim, but I can walk.
The secret is really no secret at all, as w/ anything in life, Don't overdo. Start small, work your way up. A five minute walk out in the sunshine is a gift we give ourselves. I cannot get down into the tub for a bath, but I take a hot shower every night. I have my beloved heating pad ready at all times.

I tend to keep myself at bay when I don't feel well. It doesn't help, really! Just letting your feelings out is such a physical release of stress. Stress is our enemy, no matter how bad you feel, stress makes it 100x worse.

Look for the post of Fibro 101 near the top of the page, read over all the different topics. Our Sherrine compiled all this info, from different posts our family members found. It is a very good read. I have read them before, and I still go back to read them again. I find some new thing I hadn't noticed before. (Or that I forgot, gotta love the Fibro Fog)

I do hope you will come back again, ask questions, vent, share, laugh. We are all in this together.

Just a bit more on myself, i try to walk or swim everyday, even if it makes me hurt more i do feel a little better for doing it. I recently went to a new doctor and so far has been very good, trying lyrica at the moment but it isnt going to well.
The rant was just a release from a long week, just had a flood, where i lost alot of what i own and have spent most of the week waist deep in cold water, the water has gone down and now im into the clean up job.

You mentioned how sad you are and you also mentioned that you drank too much.  Alcohol will make it so antidepressant medications won't work.  Also, alcohol can affect many different medications and that can make you feel worse, too.  Just wanted you to know that, if you didn't know that already.  Depression is horrible.  I've been there and done that!

 

You have come to a wonderful place.  We have members that really love to help one another and we really do care about each other too!  I do think you will like it here. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Don't hesitate to ask questions, too.  We are here to help you.
