Hi Sue, I literally feel your pain. In fact i just woke up with it. My back pain is also caused
by degenerative disc disease. I have had surgery, a lumber laminectomy on L-4 and L-5.
My surgeon said when he first
opened me up there was alot of scar tissue that had to be
cleaned up and that it looked like I had prior surgery. It has helped, but I still get the bad
sciatica with it. My back pain does not go well with fibro or my MCTD. The physical stress can
cause everything else to flare. I took vicodin for back pain relief for nearly a year and
no longer take it. Exercise has helped alot with back pain and fibro and everything else.
I'm sitting with my bed buddy right now and did take a muscle relaxer. Exercise is a must
for me. For a while I was doing physical therapy. I still do the exercises like the pelvic tilts and
cat stretches each morning. Walking is something I try to do daily. Sciatica set in on Friday
so I haven't been walking. Everything has been flaring. Most days , I have been walking an
established route of 1.6 miles.
I'm hoping you can find some relief and checking out all the alternatives. I know how
wearing pain can be both physically and emotionally. Oh, I'm sure you might have seen
posts where I mention doing relaxation therapy and deep breathing . It doesn't take the pain
away but does help make it more bearable. Wisjing you the best!!!
Hugs, Robin
