Sheila, you are not alone, many fibromites suffer from insomnia. Many nights I awake
from pain and have difficulty falling back to sleep. I usually get up and microwave my
bedbuddy and make myself a cup of peppermint tea...sometimes I take a muscle relaxer.
I'm flaring and it isn't unusual to have insomnia. I agree it isn't good getting by on less
sleep. Tuesday night I splept 14 hours. Trying to get a routine sleep pattern going can be
tricky. I try to go to bed the same time every night. One thing I haven't done is take a
sleep aid such as Ambien...maybe it is something i will have to discuss with my doc.
Hope you have restful nights ahead!
Hugs, Robin

I'm another one who suffers from sleeping problems. In addition to waking up because of pain, I wake up because of hot flashes, where I soak the sheets with sweat, or I wake up to pee, or I wake up because....well, sometimes, for no reason at all.
I generally operate on 2-3 hours of sleep in total per night....I sometimes nap during the day. I just can't seem to get a good sleep, and I've tried pills, melatonin, following a routine, etc. etc.
You have my sympathy!!!

Sheila, I suffered through decades with sleep issues. I usually could fall asleep o.k. but would wake up in the middle of the night and stay up. I think usually it was pain that woke me and I would spend many nights just soaking in a bath tub of hot water. When I finally decided enough was enough with all of the many problems I was having I went to the doctor and told him everything that had been going on with me forever. I was dx'd with fibro eventually and he suggested Elavil to help me sleep at night. It has been wonderful! I always sleep through the night now. I feel so much better now. Maybe your doctor can help you find something that works for you. Good luck.

hi Sheila; Insomnia is the pits! I think the worst is those nights you almost fall asleep but end up tossing and turning all night.
I do use Ambien occassinally but try to limit that to once a week.
I found Sleepy Time tea (Celestial Seasonings), helps.
Sometimes I end up on the sofa, I turn on a lousy boring show & lull myself to sleep.
Watch what you are eating and when you are taking your meds. Some meds will keep you awake.
I found that getting in a little exercise really helps.
Oh and never attempt to balance the checkbook or pay the bills in the evening. It will just stress you out and that makes for lousy sleep.

Hi Sheila,
I am so sorry that you are having trouble sleeping and getting a restful sleep. I could sleep 24/7 and still not feel rested. I do take ambien now. I try not to take it every night, but I feel so much more rested when I do. I have tried the melatonin which helped and the sleepytime tea too. They both helped me. But the ambien works the best.
I agree with the exercise, but do that in the morning or early afternoon. If you do it late at night, it will keep you awake. It speeds up your motabolism.
I have read where you really shouldn't read a book at night, or watch tv in your bedroom. They say it should be only for sleep. That the reading stimulates the brain as does watching tv. But I fall asleep in front of the tv. So I don't feel that is all that accurate.
Well, either way I hope that you get some sleep. I often meditate before I go to sleep. This is easily done, and can help you fall back to sleep if you wake up. And it totally all you doing it.
Best wishes to you.
Hugs, Karen

Shiela, I also suffered through many years of falling asleep easily, but waking up in the early hours of the morning unalble to go back to sleep. Pain was not always be a factor, but I would nearly always be drenched in sweat. I would be so fatigued that sometimes, I could not always stay awake during the day. I had tried nearly everything, including melationin, herbal teas, routines, etc. Nothing seemed to help. I finally broke down and talked to my doctor, who prescribed Trazodone. I noticed a difference immidiately. I have been taking this, now, for about
7 months, and I have had no problems with waking up, and I am no longer having the night sweats. I am still fatigued, but not as bad as before. Since I am sleeping better, it is easier to deal with the pain. I wish you luck with your situation.

Well I slept til 4. Now I am wide awake. I fell asleep on the couch with an ice pack on my knee. I took a xanax last night in hopes that it would help me sleep, it worked a little bit.
