Nana, you and I have about the same height and weight but you must be right about being solid because my size 18's are getting pretty tight.  Mine is probably due to lack of exercise, especially being out of school now.

 

Chutz, I can probably do daytime during the summer, but when school starts again in August it will be impossible.

We'll find a way to make things work, Shannon. Sherrine suggested we keep a thread going on here so we can check in at any time and know others are there. Also we can share tips, recipes and ideas. Those who choose can share email addresses and gain help that way also. Partnering with someone is often very helpful.

Keep the ideas coming...and get your minds ready for a change...a change for the better. We're not looking to weigh in and see who lost the most pounds. And you may have extra pounds and aren't interested or don't need to lose them. But most of us can eat more healthy foods and more appropriate portions. This is a lifestyle change for the better. This is being in control instead of the food taking control of us. This is something we can do just for ourselves!!

I want to join. I need to lose about 10 - 15 pounds. However, I must be very very careful because I have had anorexia in the past. You are right. Exercise is so much harder with fibro. I used to pride myself on my strength and now, I cannot do as much. Exercise should help my bursitis and hypermobile joints and the other stuff. But we do need to exercise for our own health. Anyway, I am rambling.

I am on the west coast and work all day long for now, so not sure if I can chat. But would be happy to work together somehow.

Please include me in! I have weight to lose, at least 40 pounds. And my story is so much like Sheila's (I think that's who wrote it). I was an exercise demon...seriously....90 minutes on a stairclimber in the AM, walking two miles with my dogs at night, training at karate, walking 6 miles on weekend days and then fibro hit...I still walk, but I'm glad if I can do 20 mins and I don't cover much ground. I know some of the meds hasn't helped, because the weight began climbing up when I began the meds, but I also began exercising less. In any case, please count me in! A support group is what we all need, IMHO, to keep us on the right path and help to keep us motivated and cheer each other on when we stumble.

Anyone and everyone is included! The more people we have the more support we can give each other.

Here's my vision from input I've received. Let me know what you think, please...

We'll have a daily thread going but will start a new one when we get 2-3 pages full. Or we could start one each day.

We can set a casual meeting time during the day ... either daily or a couple of times a week. We can also schedule a regular once a week time that most people can come to.

Anyone who wishes can link up with a 'buddy' or several and can email back and forth for support. Please use discretion in sharing personal information with anyone online...even here. Every group on the internet has it's goofballs..lol

This is NOT a competition to see who can lose the most weight or exercise for 12 hours straight!! This is all about eating more healthful meals and being in control of what we eat. All of this is in hopes of reducing pain, improving our health and also to lift our spirits and pride in ourselves. We are more than worth it!

I also came up with a name, instead of being "Fibromites" ("mite" means small) let's be Fibromighty :)

How about let's start on Monday. Isn't that the traditional day to begin over again. But in this case we are beginning a better way of living. We'll have a 'help each other' thread that I'll start and date. I'm not sure what to title the thing but if you have any ideas please feel free to offer up suggestions. My mind was thinking something like "Healthy Eating Help for June 14th". That's a bit boring but at least you'd know what it's all about. So someone please help with a title...lol

I do think your new name for us is a good one WCC! We can be mighty if we stick together and choose to be! We are going to take this

So, between now and Monday think about one small area where you have the most trouble. Are you a snacker? A closet eater? Night time nibbler? Where are the extra calories coming from. Then we'll all share ideas and ways to handle it. For example... I get into trouble at night especially before bedtime. So I'm looking for ideas so that I'm not deprived but I'm also not piling on calories. I'm trying a couple of things and will share how they work out.

I have a very physically demanding job where I work in the dishroom of a 200 bed nursing home. Everything is twisting
and turning and lifting. I also push mow 2 acres with a 20" pushmower every summer and do 90% of the shoveling in the
winter. My driveway is 2 1/2 cars wide and 2 1/2 deep and with these NY winters sometimes there is a LOT of snow.
Even at my age (56) and with my physical problems (arthritis, fibro, bakers cysts, lipoma, possible blown knee again, etc) I can
still outdo most of the kids I work with. I'm gonna keep going until I can't anymore.

OK, Monday is the day we start posting and helping ourselves and each other to live a more healthful lifestyle. It seems like a postponement...you know, I'll start my diet on Monday. But the reason I'm waiting a couple of days is that some folks may want to get a plan together, get 'dangerous' foods out of the house and/or do some grocery shopping for more healthy choices.

Most of us know what we should be eating but even thought we know it doesn't mean we are aware when we need to be. I will dig around and find articles and ideas on getting us through the tough times and what a normal amount of food should be. (Everyone is more than welcome to find and post information they find also.) Once I see a list in front of me it makes it so much easier. I can just choose from a list and eat. Don't try to go crazy losing tons of weight fast...it won't stay off. We're eating healthy and the weight will come off on it's own. Don't deprive yourself totally of something you love, but do go easy on the portion size. For me there are things I have to stay away from as they will set me up for cravings I can't resist.

Monday will be the first post but since I'm on the west coast I may post it late the night before. If others want to take turns doing the weekly post please just speak up. I am more than happy to share!...lol See you Monday morning...

Cymbalta was my culprit. It put 40 pounds on me throughout the past 3 years.My weight was the highest I ever have been. I decided to just go off of it because I did not feel it helped me with my pain and I was so depressed because of my weight that it was not helping my depression either. Well going off of this was HELL. I had 3 months of withdrawals that I would not wish on anyone. But finally it ended and I went on a diet. Small meals thru out the day. about 4-6. Lots of Fresh veggies, Fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese. At night ate alot of fish. Talapia is the cheapest fish and tasty if made right. I gound up macadamia nuts and used that as a breading. Took chicken breasts and cooked it in stewed tomatos.No Carbs for a while and then slowly added them back in. Stayed under 1000 calories a day. But key is small meals and drink plenty of water.The small meals helps with raising your metabolism which is so important.
I could not really excerise because it would bring on a flair but I tried to start with about 1 minute a day on a machine my roommate had. I just set my mind to do it. From there I increased to 2 minutes after a week and finally got up to 10 minutes.Well I have to say I lost 40 pounds which took me 6 months. It is a slow process but it can be done. Just have to stick with it. But if you are on meds that keep the weight on it will be tough. This is what I have done and it worked and I am happier and feel better. Also if you have a pool it is easier to exercise in the pool no pressure against your body.
This illness has been so debilitating to me. I thought I was doing so well for 3 months and now bam I went into a bad flair the past 3 weeks where my whole body went into inflammation from my back to my hand to my mouth and eyes.

I like Cymbalta eventhough it makes me put on the weight. I feel better when I'm on it than when I'm not.

I took Cymbalta for about 6 months and actually thought it cut my appetite somewhat.  The only problem I had with it was it messed my sleep up.  I couldn't tell a lot of difference in pain so I took myself off of it.

 

I'm not on any pain meds anymore so I know my weight problem is simply from over eating.  Now that I'm out of school for the summer it seems like I even eat more.  I have cut my portions down and I'm holding my own but I just can't seem to loose anymore.

Count me in. I'm an emotional, mindless eater, and I really need to pay attention to what I'm putting in my mouth. I need to lose 30-40 pounds, and while I don't want to diet (hasn't worked for me in the past), I do want to up my exercise and just learn how to practice mindful eating.
