fiorinol for migranes

I have been taking fiorinol for migranes but it doesn't really work which I told my doc yesterday.  He prescribed replax but when I researched it it warns about also taking ssri's.  The pharm called my doc to get something different and now my doc wants me to see a neurologist for the migranes.  Another blasted doctor to see.  I just want something that will take away the migrane pain sad . 

I also explained to him about my diahrrea since Christmas.  I have had all the tests and nothing showed so he feels it is IBS directly related to fibro.  He gave me yet another pill (bental?) It stops the spasming and cramping, I sure hope it works.

Check into feverfew for the migranes. I know a couple of people who swear by this herb. I've never had them so I can't attest to
the usefulness but it is in most of the herbal books for migranes.

Denise, I've suffered from migraines on and off for 15 years or so. In the past I have
been prescribed Imitrex which was helpful and also had a prescription for an opiate nasal
spray when the pain was overwhelming. On occassion my hubby would have to take me
to the ER and was given a demerol hypo to take the edge off. My migraines would last
2-3 days with nausea, and I would get them 2-3 times a month. Luckily my migraines have
become infrequent and only have a few a year and the severity has lessoned... I don't
require prescription meds for it anymore...I can get by using Excederin.

Relaxation therapy, doing deep breathing exercises helps when I do get one. Sit in a
darkened room and listen to soft relaxing music.

I know how painful migraines can be and wishing you find the pain relief you need!

Hi Denise, So sorry to hear you are dealing with the migraine issue. I have been dealing with migraines for most of my life, and it is definitely no picnic to say the least. Most of the time I deal with 3-5 per year, but last spring, they started becoming more frequent for the first time in years. I had my first neurology consult last month. Depending on how frequently you have migraines, they may try you on a preventive. By the time I saw a neurologist at the beginning of May, I had spent nearly 3 months of this year with a migraine, so they put me on topamax. After about a week, the daily migraines started to recede, and I have maxalt to take if I start to get a break through migraine now, and I can take those up to twice per week.

If you are not already doing so, find a headache diary somewhere on the internet and keep track of your migraines so you can take the diary with you to the neurologist. This will help them determine whether you need a daily preventive medication, or whether an abortive like a triptan will be sufficient to help you with your migraines. You are already on one medication that is sometimes prescribed as a preventive - your beta blocker. But that doesn't always help. I was prescribed a calcium channel blocker to start to try to treat both my blood pressure and my migraines, and my migraines doubled.

Just a note on the feverfew, since you are already on a BP medication, do not go out and take the feverfew on your own. Feverfew is a potent herb that is also used to treat high blood pressure, and should not be mixed with other treatments you are already taking.

I hope that you find some relief for you pain! Migraines are definitely pure misery.
