Hi Blesswith3Boys,
I'm sorry about your pain. I too have fibro and other illnesses. Yes, pain with fibro - or just garden variety back pain without fibro - can come and go.
You said you've had this pain for weeks, have you seen a doctor to make sure of what is causing the pain?
Sometimes just taking pills to reduce inflammation, or reduce pain might not fix the underlying cause for the problem. If it is caused by weak muscles, or a bulging disk, you need more than the pills to help your body heal it. A lot of times a doctor will give you a list of safe stretches, that are yoga type exercises. They may look too simple to work, but they're very effective if a person does them as prescribed. Typically only a few repetitions 3x a day - then building up over weeks to more repetitions until the back is strong enough to support itself and not create pain anymore. There are great books out there that show even more of these sorts of exercises, all safe yoga based exercises, that can be a real salvation. I have suffered with back injury due to accidents, and back pain for many years before I realized the power of simple cures like this.
But first, talk to your doctor and find out what is behind the pain. It is safest to start the exercises only after a doc declares you fit to do them.
Some other suggestions:
Sitting is very hard on the back. If you have to sit for periods of time (driving, working, whatever) get up every 30 minutes and gently stretch. Walk around. Then sit again if you have to. A physical therapist taught me this.
If you can, try laying flat on your stomach for a few minutes at a time. If it is comfortable to do so, extend the amount of time you do this each day. If you can lay flat for long periods of time on your stomach, eventually prop yourself up on your elbows just a little bit from this position. It helps strengthen the back muscles. But start with only laying flat - you're in pain - and don't need to prop up yet.
Laying flat on your back - try doing some very gentle, slow "crunches" with the muscles in your butt. Just a few at a time - very slowly. Breathe very deeply. This can help relax the back muscles and also build strength.
Hope you feel better real soon!
