Any conn. btwn Fibro & Extremely Tiny Veins (very diff. to get bloodwork and IVs require sedation)

Does anybody know of a medical reason that would connect Fibromyalgia to a person with tiny veins.

Nearly passes out during routine bloodwork and the blood stops flowing...

Takes hours to install an IV and ends up with sedation in order to get it done?

I have tiny veins and I absolutely hate IV's because they usually have such a hard time getting one in and then if its in longer than a day it usually blows. I don't know if that is connected to fibro or not. I do have one good vein on my right arm by the elbow and that is where they draw blood from. They have used that one so much that it now has scar tissue there and is very painful. They have been going above it a little bit and that seems to be helping. It will be interesting to see what others have to say about this.

I have the same problem as you...I once had a surgery postponed because the anesthesiologist couldn't even find a vein in the groin to start a central line. I've had NICU nurses try to find my veins, and then telling me their babies have bigger veins than I do.

Mine are so scarred from all the attempts at trying to get this done (it generally takes 6 attempts minimum to get an IV started on me) - I had to stop being a blood donor, so I didn't mess up my last good vein. LOL At least the needles don't bother me, even when they hurt like fire!

My veins are just fine, thank goodness.  I've had a lot of blood work and IV's in my day.  No, I don't believe there is any relationship with small veins.  It's more genetic than anything.  I have a friend that has had to have surgery on her veins because they are so small but she doesn't have fibro.

Oh my gosh, I know what the feeling of fire is!! One of the "conditions" that I had was porphyria (PCT) and causes for life scarring, thank goodness the paper thin skin that rips is gone. But anyways, After all the phlebotomies and tons & tons of bloodwork my inner arms are starting to be so scarred and honestly it doesn't look very good. I wish they would just get blood somewhere else as my veins are OK too.

I have a problem with this too...my blood just stops flowing and the technician is always apologizing over and over, but it doesn't hurt me, or I'm just used to it. Very strange this just happened to me the other day...and on prior surgeries they've had to use a baby needle in my foot because they can't find my veins sometimes!
