Many of you know that I'm a big advocate for exercise. I truly believe that is
has helped in more ways than one. I have lost weight, gained energy, feel
less stressed and am starting to sleep better because of it. I believe that walking
has changed my attitude on what I can or cannot do.
When I started on this forum over a year ago, it was Sherrine who was forever
posting... keep moving or you will become stiff as a board...I took her word to
heart and started moving, I began walking on a regular basis. I started slowly
and now I'm a regular walker.
There used to be too many days where I would think I couldn't walk because I
hurt too bad. You know what...once I got out there and started moving I felt
better because my focus wasn't on the pain.
I know our pain is real and it does hurt like hell, but the benefits you get from
exercise makes the effort worthwhile. Starting out slowly and gradually increasing workrked for me.
I walk with a woman who has spinal stenosis and two have arthritis. We all
start out together and each of us will go as far as we can go. The woman with
spinal stenosis and I walk daily. Our goal is to walk 5 miles...we have gone
as far as 4 miles one day...we usually average 2-3 miles
My walking buddies and I have said that walking has been the best thing for
us, we are not pain-free but feel we have a new lease on life! The fresh air
and hanging out with friends does alot to boost an attitude too.
A good soak in the tub or just relaxing afterwards with my moist heat heating pads helps with the pain. I hope those who haven't considered walking to
give it a second thought. I just want all of you to know...it does help:)
Hugs, Robin
