Yes, this is one of the symptoms I have had with FM. I had it during the first two years, but then it went away and has not come back. Was very hard to swallow pills.

The muscles of my neck are actually tightening around my throat and vocal cords. I am currently in voice therapy to try to help the problem. I have learned how to massage the muscles around my vocal cords and tongue to help with the tightening. This is fibro related. However, prior to this happening I also had an anaphylactic allergic reaction to an antibiotic where my throat actually was closing. The sensations do feel the same unfortunately. As Vannie said, I would definitely make sure there are no allergic reactions taking place. What Sherrine said can be true as well, anxiety can cause the feeling of being choked.

Depending on how often it happens you may want to get checked out by an ENT to scope you. My scope showed the muscles impinging on my vocal cords which was causing the hoarseness I was experiencing and the tightness. However, the Dr. didn't know why the muslces were doing that. It's only been through my work with the voice therapist that we have identified the tightness of my muscles in my upper shoulders/neck and them probably causing the rest of the problems.

Fibro can cause many strange things and can be very confusing, however, I have learned that it's better to get everything checked out as a precaution. When I was experiencing my allergic reaction I was fighting my body and trying to chalk everything up to fibro, thinking it was anxiety and I could calm it down, that my muscles were just very tight, etc. After 5 hours and finally going to the ER all of my symptoms were part of the allergic reaction and Fibro played no part.
