Me again,

Ok since my mri shows 2 cervical disc herniations, with mild spinal stenosis, would this cause fibromyalgia? It said the spinal cord itself is ok. My family member thinks now I don't have fibro. BUT, I have muscle soreness all over that doesn't go away and tender points, stiffness, brain fog, blah, blah. Do you think this is just a coincidence?

I don't think it would CAUSE fibro as there to date is no real cause.  I have two herniated discs and spinal stenois also and while it adds to the pain, for me it is different that fibro pain.  I think when we have these other complications it is important to be aware of  things like posture, the way we walk, bend over etc as to not aggrevate all these conditions.

Hi KL, no one really knows for sure what causes fibro. Some believe it the result of differances in the way the brain and spinal cord process and transmit pain. Fibromites are somewhat hypersensitive to pain.

It is not unusual to have things going on besides fibro...many of us have back issues or autoimmune disease or both. Muscle relaxers help my fibro and back issues. Good luck to you in your treatment.

Vestabula - you mentioned that your cervical pain is different than your fibro pain. I, too, have the cervical herniated discs and pain all over so I think I know what you mean, but can you try to articulate how it's different and what you mean, exactly? Thanks much!

I think I would listen to my doctors instead of any of my family members LOL. My neck is a mess and so is my lower back, almost afraid to get the middle done. I think we just get other things like other people do but we have fibro on top of it.

I agree GSD, I know the difference between fibro pain and pain from a bad disc, I have had a bad lumbar disc for years and I know that pain. I sure know when it's my fibro pain acting up, or something else going on, although I had put the neck pain off as arthritis pain. lol wrong on that one.
