I see alot of you talking about going to nero(brain Dc.)  and having MRI's. 

Is it because you have Fibro. are other medical issues.  If it's Fibro. what are they looking for.

This is the definition of a neuro:

Neurologist:

Neurologists possess a comprehensive knowledge of the neurological structures of the body, including the cerebral cortex and its division into various lobes and their individual jobs in making the body work as a whole.

Neuro's can diagnosis fibromyalgia too, just as a rheumy can.  My neuro mentioned it to me a long time ago, but I wasn't ready to hear it.

Before I got a dx of fibro I had a scan of my brain done to see if I had MS as the symptoms can mimic each other...they look for lesions.  I was initially told I did not have MS as my balance testing etc was fine but I insisted on the MRI.  Many doctors will want this done before giving a definative dx of fibro...some just use trigger points as a diagnostic tool.  Of course MRI's can detect other conditions besides MS...like disc compressions etc which cause pain.

Yes, I had a brain MRI also, plus a cervical MRI, they were 2 of the first tests the neuro did.  I have a wonderful neuro, worth his weight in gold, which means he is worth a lot! smilewinkgrin After seeing the rheumy 2 times, I have decided my neuro and my 2 PCPs will take care of me.

It seems that fm has similar symptoms to lupus and ms. They had to do MRI and extensive testing to rule out lupus and other diseases.

I also had a cspine and brain mri because of multiple neurological symptoms that turned up nothing except a small neck degeneration

Nana, I have a small neck degeneration too, enough to cause a constant headache.  2 different vertabrae are involved.  The MRI's are too rule out different issues, which is good.  I hope I never need a brain MRI again, they take so long and I was very uncomfortable during it.  My abdominal MRI was much easier! rolleyes If you can call any test easy!

yeah deb I agree.You are not supposed to cough during an mri and I had a cold,very hard to cough inbetween the beeps
