Have an appt with a doctor that SS made for me

I got a letter today from the SS disability office in Austin and they have scheduled me a doctors appointment. I am in the process of filing and when I recieved the letter I thought for sure it was my denial. I opened and it seems this appointment is a mental evaluation. It also says, condition, emotional problems..

ya think?  shocked

Has anyone else had to go to this type of appt?  I thought I may have to go to another doctor for some sort of physical but didn't think this..so, I completed the questionaire and said yes I'll be there..blah blah blah..

Just curious if anyone else had to do this..

I've acutally been feeling pretty good for the past few days...I hate to even say that because it seems when I start feeling good, thinking maybe I can go back to work, maybe I can go fishing, maybe I can go on motorcycle rides again....then, bam..I'm down again...I also can tell my attitude is better too....wooohoooo..thank you God!

Yes, I went through it, had the appt with a psychologist or psychiatrist, not sure now which. I was told to bring all the medications and supplements I take in their original bottles, which I did, which filled a huge canvas bag. He never even looked at it. He asked me a bunch of questions for about an hour. He was very compassionate. This was about 2 years ago so I don't remember now what the questions were, well I remember some were about pain, levels of pain. My advice is just be honest. Don't hold back. If he/she asks about your pain, tell it like it is, as best as you can explain. I wish you well

Sounds promising!  That's what happened to me.  I first had a phone interview.  Then all of my doctors sent whatever they wanted.  Then I was given a form to fill out explaining how my pain was when I did my daily activities.  Then they sent me to their doctors....an Internist (for fibro, Crohn's, and diabetes) and had my hearing checked because I have an extreme hearing loss.  Nana, after that I didn't hear a word and I didn't call them either.  Next thing I knew I got my bank statements and thousands had been deposited in it because I was actually eligable when my husband passed on....two years before.  That one shocked me!  So, it's "lookin good"!  I'll keep the prayers going.

wow, Sherrine thanks so much!! Yep, I got the form that asks all the questions about daily activites and sent that in weeks ago. I was very honest and basically said in several of my answers that it SUCKED and that I was angry because the life I loved had been taken away..no one to explain why or what causes this...maybe that's why I'm getting the psych doctor..ha..but I really think it's because my main reason they gave me the long term disability was because of the depression and something the doc called chronic stress reaction issues..which I'm finding out is very true..

as long as I'm in my peaceful world all is good..but it something comes at me thats not planned or I feel overwhelmed in the least little bit..i freak..I just can't handle it anymore...I use to live for that..worked so well being stretched..but not anymore...

gotta run, we are having digornio's pizza for dinner..

I appreciate your thougths and all your prayers..know that I pray for you and everyone on the forum..

I will keep you in my prayers. I hope it all goes well. I am like you, I feel good for a few days and think, wow, maybe I CAN go back to work, I can get back into the groove and work like I did before...haha then the next day or two, wham. My fibro says NO you can't. You just sit here and let me take over. haha. I have been feeling better since I am staying at home. I can pace myself and my stress levels have been down a lot. To tell you the truth I am scared to try to work, because I might end right back up where I started and I don't want that.

KL, we are in the same groove for sure...today is a new day, I woke up and my hands are swollen and burning..my body hurts...especially the same ole same ole..for me it's my hips and shoulders...and I just feel so short fused..everyone and everything is plucking my nerves...

So today I am going to lay very low, read and just take it easy..I've had a good run for the past 3 weeks or so...we have grandkids coming from outa town on Monday..they will be perfect medicine for me...

Were you working and what did you do for a living? just curious..I was a surgical coder...sr. tremendous stress, analyzing medical records and op reports...I loved that job, loved the folks I worked with..and now it's gone..I'm accepting that better than before..but still makes me so angry..because there is no explanation of why this happend or how long it will be here or how to get it gone...

I've said it so many times but gotta say it one more time. I'm so thankful for this forum.. These folks are the only ones who truly relate to where I am..and we all need that..

See I feel pretty good today..lol. My energy level seems fair and I have did some light cleaning and washing my clothes now. I was a RN working on a busy cardiac floor in a hospital. I started out day shift then switched to nights. I did 12 hr shifts 3 days a week. That job was very, very stressful. I went out because of my back in 09 for 90 days FMLA and came back into a different position. I took a lower paying job and sat for 8 hrs a day watching heart rhythms on a monitor. I wanted to save my back and nursing is physically demanding, and plus at that time my memory was starting to affect me bad. I couldn't keep up, stay organized and even forgot md orders, checking charts and stuff. I was scared I was going to make a bad mistake. I didn't trust myself. I think thats when my fibro symptoms started. I also started to notice my stomach muscles stayed really sore and had tender points, and I had no idea what it was. I even asked doctors at work what it could be. Never thought it was the start of my fibro.
Anyway, I could only do the sitting job for almost 2 years. My fibro really started to kick in and I could not perform well. Just getting out of the car walking to my floor would wear me out. I told my husband if I could have looked into the future and could see that fibro was going to be a part of my job I would not have went into debt going to nursing school.lol. I know for a fact I could never go back to being a RN, I mean the other position I took was as easy as pie and I just couldn't do it. Some days just using the mouse hurt so bad.
I can say I am doing better now. I really wish they would understand how we felt and that some days we look and act normal, but most days and everyday there is something going on inside of us.

Hello Fibronana, I am Kathy/nini53, I usually post on the chronic pain forum, but since I have had fibromyalgia for many years, I thought I would take a look at this forum.

So, yes I had to go see I think 3 doctors the SS gave me.  The I remember most was a psych evaluation, witch lasted maybe 10-15 minutes.  The questions I was asked were not difficult.  I wish I could remember more, but its been over 12 years old.

The other reason I remember it was I left the appt. and was waiting at the bus stop for my bus and after about 10 minutes fainted (it was summer and about 95 degrees and 100%humidity.  Someone called an ambulance and I was kept overnight due to being dehydrated.  So that was hard to forget.
