Broken thermostat?

There are times that I feel my internal thermostat is broken, like it can't regulate my heat. I tend to run hot sometimes and I don't understand why. They are not hot flashes - I've had enough of them to know the difference. Like last night, I got hot and it lasted for nearly 4 hours. I had to change into shorts and sit outside in 35 degree temps to cool off. Sometimes I run cold too. Is this a normal Fibro thing? Hormonal perhaps? I'm 41 but I had an endometrial ablation done about 5 years ago and I haven't had a period since.

Sherry, half the time I'm putting covers on and then taking them off then putting them back on and taking them back off.  I can be hot when no one else is and I can be cold when no one else is.  My feet feel like they are blocks of ice but when I touch them with my hands, they are actually warm.  This is a crazy illness!

I'm with you too. Mostly at night, but occasionally in the daytime I'm too cold, then get overheated. I especially have to be aware though, of meds interacting. I've had serotonin syndrome a couple of times!

Thanks Alcie and Sherrine for the responses. My broken thermostat drove me insane all weekend. gggrrrr! I'm used to night sweats but this weekend was crazy and I felt so hot like I was going to spontaneously combust! Now I wake up this morning and my body temp feels normal again but now I'm on the chilly side. The first time this happened, I took my temperature because it felt so sure it was going to read boiling, but nope - it was normal.

Being hot for 4 hours is not hot flushes. At least it's not the regular ones. You might run it by an endocrinologist.
Is it a possible side effect of any of your meds? Reynauds or something?

Hey guys,

I get the hot/cold flashes too, and I'm only 29. My poor husband is my heater when I'm cold, but I don't want him near me when I'm hot. I've had to open my window in freezing cold temperatures before because I was just too hot. It took a whole 10 minutes for me to catch hypothermia, LOL, but seriously I got cold FAST.

I've also checked my temperature thinking I had some sort of fever going on, so you guys are not alone. There have also been times when I got so cold I hopped into the nice warm shower, and then I'd get dizzy/light-headed and would have to turn the temperature to cool.

Having this illness is definitely something else.

Hi Everyone,

I have this too. Mine are rapid changes. I'm testing right now to see if I drink more water it will help. So far no hot feelings today or during the night. I'll let you know if it keeps working.

That is why I have been getting those. I have times where I feel like I have a fever, I am ALWAYS asking my husband to check my temp...

Hi Everyone,

The only thing I drink during the day is water and a small glass of sugar free grape juice in the morning. Since doubling up on the amount of water I drink for the last two days I haven't had any hot flashes.

If any of you decide to give this a try, let me know if it works for you.

The best thing about this website for me is not so much getting some advice but the possibility of helping others.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one..people make fun of me because I'm going to work in sandals and short sleeved shirts in 50 degree weather..but I get so hot I feel like I'm going to pass out!
