Anti-inflammatory meds

Does everyone take an anti-inflammatory medication on a daily basis.  My doctor put me on arthrotec a couple of months ago and it really helps reduce the inflammation in my knee and sciatica but I have been coughing since I started on it with lots of post nasal drip.  I don't know if this is a side effect.  Also if I miss a day my symptoms are worst then before I ever started on it. Tons of fluid appears and I can't walk and I now have numbing skin pain everywhere including my scalp.  So I take it again and then I can walk but it worries me.  I also have a bottle of Daypro (anti-inflammatory) that my pain management dr gave me.  I haven't been using that because I am using the arthrotec.  I know you can't use two anti-inflammatories at the same time.  How long between doses or days do you think I should wait before trying the daypro.  I won't know if the cough is coming from the arthrotec if I don't stop it. I don't call my doctor as often as I want to because everything seems to be put in the fibromyalgia category.    Please let me know what anti-inflammatories each of you use.  Thank you.

 

Sawa, these are questions you need to be asking your doctor.  We would be guessing.  Also, you need to let your doctor know what is happening with the meds, too.  

 

I took over-the-counter ibuprofen for years and never had a problem until recently.  But, I always took it with food to help protect the stomach.  The anti-inflammatories are NSAID's and can cause bleeding ulcers and other problems so you do need to be careful.

By the way, did you read the post I wrote called Something That Has Been Helping Me Lately?  It's further down on the first page of the forum...at least right now it is.  This product is an alternative product that is all natural and really has no side effects.  I'm using this with success.  You might check this out, print info about it, and talk to your doctor.  It works very much like ibuprofen but without the nasty side effects.

Hello Sawa. Do you have acid reflux? The reason I ask is that like others have said, anti-imflammatories can be very hard on your stomach. I have an unusual form of acid reflux called LPR. That is when the acid can go up into your throat area and 2 very common symptoms of that are indeed post-nasal drip and the coughing that comes along with it. Heartburn is not always a symptom of LPR. People with LPR have different triggers such as acid foods or certain meds. Just a thought. I also think you need to talk to your dr or a pharmacist about what's going on. If reflux is an issue and the meds are helping your issues maybe your dr could put you on an antacid which may help you tolerate that possible side effect.
