New member intro

Hello everyone,

I've commented on some posts for the past few days and am just now introducing myself. I was dx'd with fibromyalgia 10 years ago, but I got sick several years before the dx. My illness actually started in my gut and immediately spread to my nervous system. Mixing words and meaning to say something but saying something completely different and non- sensical were some of the cognitive problems. *It* ( I always believed it was an infection of some kind) also was in my muscles then joints. The gut problems were the worst until I realized I had lost my ability to digest gluten and went gluten- free.
I forgot to add that I began to get horrific migraines with non- stop vomiting that would last for a couple days.
I saw a gastro for the gut problems and a PCP for the migraines, but I didn't think to mention all the other stuff that was going on. After a few years and about 100 other symptoms, my gyn referred me to a Rheumy. He showed me a paper with a list of symptoms and asked me if it looked familiar. I was surprised to see the paper described my symptoms. He dx fibromyalgia based on all the tender points. I am thankful that I saw him when I did. It is an alarming thing when one's body is falling apart at the seams and you don't have a clue as to why.
I was divorced in 2003 after 28 years of marriage. It's been a really rough ride.
I relocated to the east coast with my youngest son, who I live with.
I've been fairly isolated for the past 9 years and think I would enjoy talking to other Fibromites. I do a lot of research online looking for answers and am especially interested in comparing notes with others.
Currently I am investigating mast cells in fibromyalgia.

Hi, Marrit, and welcome!  I'm glad you found us and joined the family.  I think we all have wracked our brains trying to figure out this illness.  Everyone has a different story as to how they came down with it and everyone has a different variety of symptoms, too.  Then we all have differences in the intensity of the symptoms.  No wonder doctors think this is all in our heads!  But it isn't and finally doctors are starting to realize this.  It's such a good feeling to feel validated.

 

If you haven't already, be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There is a lot of good info there and  you may learn even more about fibro.  I know that I'm still learning after decades of this illness.
