Muscle Twitching

Hi. Last summer I had the worst muscle twitching in the big muscle on the front of my leg. It is right where the top of knee starts. It got so bad that it formed a knot and was very sore. I started taking malic acid and it completely stopped. I have had to stop taking the malic acid because acid reflux got so bad. Now a few days later, the twitching has started again in the same place.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what else I can do.

Hi Donna,

Not sure if it is related since we all have different symptoms...but I do get muscle "twitches" as well. Mine are sparatic and in multiple places. It may be a side effect as well to your medications. However, if you are concerned you may want to discuss this with your doctor.

Try just magnesium without the malic acid in it. Malic acid gives me heartburn too so I usually just take 400 mg of magnesium daily and it helps with the twitching and muscle spasms. Also alittle note I take papaya digestive enzymes since having gallbladder surgery last year and it really helps with any digestive issues.

Hi aubgirl,

I had muscle twitching big time when I was tried on the med Gabapentin. Have you just started a medication? Would soaking in the bathtub help and massaging the area?

Thanks everyone. I am actually not taking any medications except tylenol or ibuprofen. While I was taking the malic acid, most of my symptoms got much better. The twitching stopped completely. I am going to try just taking the magnesium by itself.
