Animals Sensative to Fibromyalgia

I was wondering if anyone else encountered an animal that seemed to tell when you were sick? I live with my sister and when she got two puppies I was really afraid they'd be too much for me to handle,but I was shocked at the one. The adorable little white fuzzball can tell not just when I'm too tired or in pain,but where my fibro is flaring. If my hand hurts she licks my hand, when I get migranes...she licks where on my head hurts! It's uncanny and it does kind of help to soothe the pain. She even came in handy when I had a bad reaction to a new medicene. I was having trouble waking up. I just couldn't do it,but she escaped her pen jumped on my chest and licked my face until I was able to muster up the ability to move around again. I'm really greatful to have her around, I jokingly call her my little nurse sometimes and take her whenever I can when I go out.

I know there is a dog breed that is trained to help fibromites out by lying on their necks and other body parts to provide warmth. I looked up the cost, and there is no way I could ever afford one. However, I'm one of those people who gets relief from ice instead of heat.

We have a Siamese Cat that will come and lay down on whatever part of your body is hurting. Our youngest daughter has horrible pain in her knees and sometimes in her elbow joints. She will come in for a visit and our cat will come and sit on whichever knee is hurting and just hug the kneecap.

When my husband stopped breathing at night several times, the cat would come running and jump on his chest to wake him up. She is a 9 yr old rescue kitty. (We don't talk about her life behind bars, she is sensitive. )

Oh my, what a thread! I could go on and on about this, but you wouldn't want me to, lol. I have had MANY dogs in the past 31 years, most of them Golden Retrievers ( I am NUTS about them). I had one female, Shannon, that was SO sensitive to me. I don't know what they feel or understand, I think it is our energy that they pick up on. She knew when I was upset and would softly come to me and lay her head on my lap and just stare at me. Or if I was crying, she would gingerly put her feet between my legs when I was sitting in a chair, and come up and lick my tears and then place her head, her cheek, softly against mine and just gently breathe...she was amazing. I have had 6 other Goldens (3 presently) and none of them had whatever it was she had...maybe just a connection? She was "my heart" dog...no doubt about it. There have been studies done that some dogs can smell malignant tumors in humans long before any test or machine can detect them and they are right nearly 100% of the time!

I also had a Bichon Frise for almost 17 years, little Herbie and let me tell you...that was a dog with ATTITUDE! I loved him dearly but man oh man, that little piece of s**t simply didn't want me to go anywhere EVER. If I was gone from home more than two hours, he'd find a pair of my shoes and pee on them! Yes, I should have crated him, but he hated crates (I know, I know, I still should have done it)...he had me wrapped around his little dew claw and when he was mad at me, he'd give me the dew claw!

Some dogs have them, some not. I asked my vet why Spookie, a Maltese does. He said because she has a tail. If their tails are docked, or ears cropped, the dew claws are removed. It is a nail on the side of the front legs close to the paw.

I have had German Shepherds all my life. Many of them, I have had this "special" connection with. When I was a young girl, I had Princess, who was a guard dog of the family and who would watch out for all of us, but especially me.

Then there was one of our show dogs, Covy's Electra of Tucker Hill, call name Tea, for short. She was amazing. She was very protective of our girls and our home, but talk about sensing when someone in the family was ill?

When I was crying or depressed, she would put her head in my lap and stay there until I was over it. If I had stomach cramps or a headache, she would lay on my lap or my body if I were lying down on the bed. She was so sensitive. Everybody saw it too. She was especially fond of females. If a female friend came over with symptoms of feeling ill or down, she would go to them and do the same thing, lie her big head in their lap or on their body somewhere. It was amazing and I have never forgotten that dog.

Then there are the two clowns we have now, Tzar and Xander. Tzar is more my husband's dog and Xander is much more attached to me. If I stay in bed in the morning, Xander lies at my side. During the night, he lays on my side of the bed. During the day, when I get up and start walking, I practically trip over him because he is walking right by my side and trying to lick my hand or arm. If someone is at the door and I have to put the dogs in the bedroom, Xander will grab my hand with his mouth while I am closing the door, just to let me know he doesn't want to be without me. He is a very special dog and very funny to boot. When I am feeling down, he is in my lap and definitely shows that he knows when something is not right with me.

As my name says I love my dogs. I have four chihuahuas Burt, Pip, Squeak, and Wiley. I have taught Burt "Gentle" He can be a little overwhelming. He's the "Bigest" of the group at about 9 pounds. He's just over a year old and he just can hurt me accidentally cause he just gets soooo excited, but I taught him that if he stands next to me on the recliner and gently leans against me and tucks his head under my chin and lets me rub his chest:) Pip is the smallest and he just knows when i am having issues he just wants me to pick him up (he also has the softest hair I have ever felt on a dog) and pet him. Wiley is the baby and he just loves his momma and makes me laugh no matter how bad I feel. Burt is my pride and joy because he is so darn smart and knows to be gentle with me.

Awww.....Doggy's are so smart...my son moved back home to finish school...along with him came is 60lb black lab, at first I was like mmmm....is this going to work out...well it did and let me tell you that dog knows when I am not feeling well or having a flare, this dog does not leave my side. She loves me!!!! My son raised her from a pup and if I go away she barely eats. So we always joke that when he moves out I get visitation...lol..

Dogs R Me too. Have just loved every one I have ever had. I currently have a "designer" Chorkie, Yorkie/Chihuahua. She is, of course, the cutest, smartest most lovable dog ever. She just had her second birthday and goes with me wherever possible. I am a snowbird and she is a veteran traveler already in both my car and my RV. She does seem to sense when I am hurting more than usual and just lays as close to me as she can get, burrows down under covers in bed. She makes a perfect heating pad. I call her my parrot dog because she will sit on my shoulder when I am on my laptop. Fortunately, she weighs about 5 lbs. When she wants to play and sees that I am hurting, she calms right down and lays as close as she can get. Sorry, you guys got me started.
