Hi all. I was just wondering if its anyone else has a numbing pain in the occipital bone, at the back of the skull base. I have a large hard bump there for a very long time, probably just the bone, and it hurts from time to time. I think its when I have a flare, not sure yet becuase this is my first real flare since being diagnosed. The pain is wierd, its kind of a numb, cold pain along the right side of my scalp and its sometimes sore to touch. Its especially sore when its cold out side and gives me a strange headache. I did read about a link between FM and occipital neuralgia on google searches and am wondering if anyone else has something similar? I haven't discussed this with my doc yet. I've had to change my appointment again!!! Thanks all.

I get that too.- very often.. I have arthritis in my neck and a disc problem in my neck and the bone is often very sore... as is the base of my neck....
mine cause bad headaches and dizziness and vertigo.. eye problems too. My doctor knows about it.. and next time I see him I am going to bring up
the Occipital neuralgia

I have areas on my head that get very sore. I just had it for days last week. The area is so sensitive and really hurts, and I know that I did not hit my head. :-)

It was many years ago I was rubbing my head and felt a knot on back of my head. It was checked by a Dr. Nothing came out of it. I just now reached back there and it's still there. I guess my skull is funky made when I was born. Lol

yes..my chiro puts me in a" head lock" and releases it...and it then feels much better.

I have these on each side of my skull.  My massage therapist said they were muscle knots and she massages them and they get better for me.  If you press on them, and if they are tender, they most likely are muscle knots.  She will press as hard as I can tolerate for a few seconds and then massage it.  Then repeats this several times.  The knot gets smaller and I don't have the neck and skull pain now.  I can do this myself and I do!  I used to have stiff necks a lot but not since I've been massaging those knots.
