Hi everyone. I am new to this site and I have a question. Does chemical sensitivities go along with fibro?  I have been noticing recently bleach really bothers me. I had a weird episode yesterday when the janitor at my job came in and got the trash and was out in about 30 seconds. I smelled bleach and I asked her if she had bleach. She had a bleach rag. I had immediately started burning on my skin and also got a headaches. It continued to get worse and worse and I finally had to leave work 45 min early. Today I feel better. I have problems burning anyway, but I've just been having this problem with bleach for about a year probably, but never a reaction this bad.

Any help would be appreicated. Thank you.

Bleach gives me a terrible headache & kind of woozy-nauseous. Yes, I believe chem sensitivities go along with Fibromyalgia quite often. I have a very sensitive nose.

You wouldn't like me then, I am a bleach nut. Lol. I am not to senstive to smells. I have trouble smelling things sometimes. I guess it's a good thing.

Yes! I just posted on this recently. I have had horrible reactions to deck sealer, some kind of cleaning product my husband used to clean coins (idk what it was) and smoke from a burning barrel. I can handle cleaning products ok so far. I get really sick, headache, nausea, feel really "ill", gas, diarrhea, bowels get upset and bloated, dizziness, and just feel really weird too. I have to lay down and usually I take something for pain. It depends on how much and how long I smelled the odor will the symptoms last. The coin cleaning stuff I was sick for half of the day. The smoke made me sick for at least 3 hours. I have these "spells" too without smelling strong things, I get it if I overwork and push my body. I think it's just a reaction in the nervous system that is delicate in fibro, in my opinion.

Thank you everyone for the information. I started to think I'm totally nuts. I knew it was giving me a reaction, but I thought can just the smell do that. It sounds like it can. Other smells bother me too sometimes.

AK Angel, I used to be a bleach nut too. I have pretty much quit using it at home. My husband used it one day in the bathroom without me being aware and I had a little reaction that day too. I guess bleach is gone from my home now.

I also have a very sensitive nose. I guess it can be a blessing or a curse. LOL

Yes, me too. It's extreme. Walking through the perfume counter at a store makes me woozy immediately. Cleaning products, sometimes even the "natural" ones, candles, perfumed soap, air freshener, even some cooking scents like almond and cinnamon (although I like them.)

Fibro has got to be a nervous system syndrome, IMHO. How else could it affect us in such wildly disparate ways?

Me too. Feel like I could literally pass out in a tire store.... I get welts in my mouth from acrylic (nightguard)... had to have it remade twice until I found a material I could tolerate. Cleaning products are worst... I wear gloves for everything now.
