Basically the question is back in 1997 Joe Shmo got a prescription for oxycontin from a doctor. Over the next several years he would go to 10 different doctors and fill them at 7 different pharmacies. Doctors stopped filling his scripts and he sued Purdue pharmacueticals, all the doctors and the pharmacies for allowing his addiction to continue. Who would be held legally and ethically accountable
My question is I am assuming this happened between 1997 to 2003ish. Would pharmacies have been able to tell he was filling prescriptions at other pharmacies? When did doctors start monitoring narcotics usage by requiring patients to use the same pharmacy and perform random drug tests, and is that a law?
Right now my answer pretty much says purdue pharmacueticals should be held legally responsible because at first advertised oxy as a non addictive medication, the pharmacies where he filled more than one script should be held legally responsible but I am not sure if the pharmacies where he only filled one prescription could do anything about it.
Im supposed to be napping now :) but when I wake up I can post the whole question if anyone is interested.
