Namian, I've sure been hoping I could inspire somebody :)
Well, like we all agree, FM is different for everybody...
But for me, the first step was cutting out that nightly food binge. However, if a person didn't have an eating disorder, or was not obese to begin with, maybe this would not help them as much...
Maybe then, a person could start out with short walks.... then longer ones.... then on an incline {I love hill climbing }
If the impact bothered them, then maybe a stationary bike.... or of possible, a real one !
Or light weightlifting.... > EVEN IF they are in a wheel chair !
{BTW, I have a good acquaintance who is a paraplegic, due to a construction accident. Been trying to get him into weightlifting.... and I think I've almost hooked him ;)}

In other words, I think when it comes to diet and exercise, a person should just start out with whatever their bodies (and their FM) will allow. Then, as they get conditioned to that, start slowly stepping it up.
It could be that as they get stronger and healthier at the stuff they can do, other stuff that was not possible before, starts to become possible down the road.
Again, it would be pretty naive of me to think I can second guess how somebody else's body (with FM) will react.
This just sounds like something that I'd try.....
