trigger point injections???

Hi everyone,  I have been having a lot of trouble with my neck (artritis, a lot of stiffness and pain).  Mentioned it to my fibro doc and he suggested trigger point injections.  Never had that before.  Decided to go for it. Right after it, i was in so much pain it was hard to make the 1/2 hour ride home.  but now I am wondering if it is actually working.  I still have some soreness, but I don't have the daily pain, and I think I can move my neck more than normal.

Has any one had these injections?  Any success?  How often do you have to get them done?

Hi Susan, I get them in my neck every month or two. I have a little luck with them, they don't completely take the pain away but its a definate improvement. I make sure I take a pain killer before getting them done and always use an icepack the first 24 hours. Just a note there is something called a cortisone flare which is where you feel worse the dirst 48 to 72 hours which I find more relief from taking an anti inflammitory rather than tylonol.

Ive had the cortisone trigger points, and Botox inj. Both worked well, first Botox lasted almost a year. After that, the time frame went down. That pain doc said there were some new Botox things in the pipeline for the next few years.

I have had the injections numerous times. Typically i will feel worse for 24-48 hours, but then I will see great improvement that will last 2-4 weeks.

:-)  Thanks for responding everyone.  So yes, after 24 hours of soreness and the initial few hours of complete pain.  I now can turn my neck and look over both shoulders and can almost touch my ear to my shoulder!!!!!  And not much neck pain.  I guess I'll be doing the shots again.  I have been living with daily neck pain for so long and it was getting worse and worse.  It's nice to have a bit of a break.  We'll see how long it lasts.
