Im disgusted

Please feel free to remove this post if its violating the terms, I just can't believe some of the stuff I just read. I love the show Intervention on A&E and was watching it this morning. They are showing an episode where a girl was shooting diludid (sp?) I didn't even know you could injecto "get t it so of course me being a curious person, I jump on google to read up on it (I have no interest in trying anything illegal, so please don't think that's why) Anyway the forums that pop up blow my mind. Person x gets 100 diludid from their PM and an addadditional 100 from their PCP and the best way to get a high is to... It disgusts me that people would abuse medication this way, and no wonder doctors are so hesitant to prescribe it.

Im sorry for whining about this. I honestly had no idea the extremes some people would go to "get high"

Good question! They are working on a national database and it's high time (no pun intended!) because, as you said, people who need these meds should not be lumped together with those who seek them for recreational use.

I guess anything as huge as our healthcare system is going to take a long time to overhaul.

I have often seen the same thing when researching a med online - people chatting back and forth about how they beat the system to get these meds for fun. Then I come here to the forum and read another post about someone who's being belittled, judged, and refused the meds they actually need to function. It's maddening.

 Iam sure that they will find a way to do that , I think not sure in Seattle that Pharmacies do have a way to connnect to others data

I work at a pharmacy, And there are some ways you can tell when someone is pharmacy hopping

It is sad because it does make it hard for those that really do need pain medication and use it properly

Doctors are getting where they call the pharmacys around the area to find out if people have filled and when

 The things that people will try amaze me, Our typist is like a pharmacy watch dog LOL

She knows when scripts are fake I cant tell but she sure can and she calls the doctor and sure enough that person hasnt been to that office in over a year.

Maybe if we can get a better data set up that connects then it would help all those that

are in real need , I sure hope you all have a great week

Yeah, this painkiller issue is a sore one for me. My BIL is an addict (you name it, he probably abuses it, mostly prescription) who was diagnosed about six months ago with a back issue that warrants strong painkillers. He refuses to have surgery to fix it, we believe so that he can maintain legitimate access to his drugs of choice. Some doctors in town are aware of his abuse issues and refuse to prescribe him anything, knowing that one doctor in town is actively managing his case. Long story short, last week he was able to "game the system" and get some fentanyl patches prescribed by a doctor unaware of his issues. He put on two patches and almost OD'd. I really, REALLY hate that people like by BIL make life harder for people like us, but also that a lack of a database helps people like him do stupid things and make it easier for them to feed their addictions.
