Hi, MissLyss, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined in. Well, my opinion is that I would go with what the rheumatologist said. You could have arthritis AND fibro, too. I do. For years (25 to be exact) I've been dealing with excrutiating back pain and put it off to fibromyalgia. Nope. I went to a rheumy for the first time a couple of months ago. After a bazillion x-rays, many vials of blood work, and two MRI's I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. It's a rheumatic disease. The blood work showed high levels of inflammation and fibro is NOT an inflammatory illness! Yes, I still have fibro but I have AS, too. These things are treated differently. If you really aren't sure, you might want to see another rheumy for a second opinion. I'm not doing that because the rheumy I chose is excellent and thorough and I value his diagnosis.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links are called Symptoms and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
