I have Fibro. and am sure this has nothing to do with it. But, everyone is telling me I have a sciatic nerve.  My hip (1) hurts so bad, I can't walk very good.

Has anybody had this, are could it be caused by something eles.

Dc. said he wanted a MRI, but of couse that will never happen without insurance.!!

Oh, I don't remember really getting an injury???

Marilyn,….I would like to also invite you to the Chronic Pain forum. We have several members who suffer from the sciatic nerve problems as well.

It seems that quite a few members have had problems with the sciatic nerve.  I don't think it's fibro but other things.  Mine was.  If it continues to give you a problem, you need to discuss this with your doctor.  It could be from disk problems or arthritis-type diseases, too.

 

Meanwhile try cold or heat on the area and see if that helps at all.  Anti-inflammatories could help some, too...at least that's what I have done.

Sciatic nerve problems generally are caused from Lumbar spine problems…L4-L5…L5-S1. An MRI is really needed to diagnose this though.

PT and or both an Epidural may give you some relief…but again Dr's will want the latest MRI images before performing an Epidural. PT can be done without and MRI though.

Oh Marilyn - this really hit a "nerve" with me (ha ha) as it has been the bane of my existence for over 3 months now. It's some of the worst pain I ever had. I had disc surgery in March, and though I'm MUCH better, some of the pain is still alive and well. Probably some permanent nerve damage, from what I can gather....I'll go back this week to see what the surgeon says, but I'm a bit discouraged.

I would really try to get an MRI if you possibly can, because if you do need surgery, the longer you wait the worse the damage could be. I didn't have an injury, either, just a ruptured disc from degenerative disc disease.

Hope yours just fades away as mysteriously as it came, and that's the end of it.

Debbie, do you have asteo.? I was shoveling and all of a sudden I told myself to stop. I knew I pushed it to hard. I didn't feel like it was an accident though. Can something simple like that do it?

I do have some osteoarthritis in my spine. Never knew it until I had an MRI.

All I know is, when my disc ruptured, I just woke up and turned over in bed! (Whether it ruptured at that moment, I don't know for sure, but that's when the horrible pain started, so I assume it did.) But I'd had pain to a much lesser degree in that same exact spot for many years.

I feel for you, Marilyn! My surgeon said that he had the same disc rupture (L4-L5) and all he'd done was pick up a pencil!! Of course, knowing what it was right away (and naturally, no financial constraints there) he had the surgery 4 days later. Must be nice.
