This is a question directed to the people who also have trigger points in addition to tender points. I usually get monthly cortisone injections to help release trigger points and reduce some swelling. I am due for my shots this week but was going to treat myself to a myofascial release massage tomorrow to celebrate finishing finals. I have never had. Bone before and my question to anyone who has, do you feel it really helped and I can hopefully be able to postpone the injections for a few weeks or would I be better off scheduling a doctors appointment and just treating myself to a normal massage. I don't know if it makes a difference but 90% of my trigger points are in my neck and upper back. I know this falls more under MPS than fibro but since most doctors treat them as the same thing im hoping for some advice.
Thank you

I have heard a lot about
the myofascia massage, and lots of good things. You just have to make sure to get a therapist who is familiar with it. Also, you might check out LivingSocial; they recently had a deal for a fibromyalgia massage session near my hometown (I nearly fainted, because its so unusual). Maybe you can find one through them? Good luck, let us know how it goes if you decide to have it done!

Massages help me a lot. I also bought a book called the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook and I work getting rid of trigger points myself. I bought the book on Amazon.
I hope your massage went really well.

I was not able to schedule an appointment until Monday but I am very excited. My migraines have been excrutiating the past few days due to trigger points in my neck. I spoke to the massage therapist who is recommended for treating fibro patients and she told me she actually combines different types of massage to get the most effective relief. I am very impressed she also wants me to show up a half hour early to discuss health problems, lifestyle and exactly what I am hoping to achieve.

Hi Jill, I think getting the massage is a good idea. I have had regular massages before and loved them and I just found a massage therapist that specializes in fibro and trigger point release also. So when I get paid the end of the month I plan to make an appt. Good luck and I hope it helps. Oh and by the way my chiropractor can turn off a migraine by adjusting my neck. Once I went in with a 17 day migraine headache and I was at my wits end and he cracked my neck and I felt alittle dizzy but my sinuses
opened up, my eyes started running, my ears leaked and poof no more headache. It was amazing because it was a sinus trigger migraine and he relieved it. But I do love massages more.
