Today I finally got diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia. It has been over 2 years, but I finally found a Dr. that would listen to all my symptoms and not look at me like I was crazy. I am already on a medication for acid reflux and he upped my dosage and also put me on Nabumetone and Amitriptyline. Has anyone ever taken these meds or have any comments on how they may or may not help?

Isn't it a nice feeling when you finally know what is going on? It's great you found a doctor who will actually help you now!

I haven't taken either of those drugs myself. Nabumetone is a pain killer for osteoarthritis. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant often used to help fibromyalgia patients, though I'm not sure how it works. Hopefully these drugs will help you live better and with less pain.

I'm really glad you found this forum, there are many resources here. I suggest you read the Fibro 101 post as it has a lot of useful information. There are also some really nice people here who understand the kind of pain you have to deal with day to day.

I know it's helped me a lot just to have people who understand what I'm saying and how I'm feeling. Keep coming back :)

Welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but you have landed in a "nice, soft" place! We all love to help eachother with information and also just understanding and coping. It is wonderful to find an understanding doctor, isn't it? I remember, it felt like a miracle!

I have been taking Nortriptyline (very close cousin of Amitriptyline) for almost 20 years, and by now, of course, I don't really remember how it first made me feel - except that it did help me sleep right off the bat. They consider treating sleep problems one of the absolute most important components of treating fibro.

I haven't heard of Nabumetone, but I'll bet somebody will have...

I took Amitryptylene for 3 days. It was not good for me, it caused me to have angry (really really mean) outbursts at my kids, and what was really scary to me was that there was ZERO lead-up to the snap...I was as surprised as my kids in other words!

But give it a try, everybody is different. I'm interested to know if anyone else had the problem I had on Elavil/Amitryptylene.
