ANA...does high ANA go along with Fibromyalgia?

I am trying to self diagnose, which is ridiculous, but I can't get an appt with the Rheumatologist until AUGUST 10.  Holy blue cats that is a long way away.

ANA is 1:640

Does anyone else here with fibromyalgia have a titer like that?

My symptoms are

all over itching (intermittent)

aching

fatigue

bones are achy

skin is sore

Hi there! I am sorry that you are having these issues. Let me first encourage you to keep your Aug 10 appointment- it will be here in no time :) Second, it is important to pay attention to the ANA numbers. You may already do this, but if not, begin jotting down notes on a calendar about your symptoms and a pattern may emerge- this is important information for both you and the doctor. A high ANA score and FM may or may not be related- there are theories on both possibilities. Do as much research as you can, keep your calendar-diary, and make notes at your doc appt and ask for copies of all tests, etc. Good luck to you and I hope you emerge soon from this rough time. The ANA test isn't that accurate.  It just notes if there is some inflammation going on...which you could have with other illnesses or perhaps even a cold.  They fluctuate.  But, they are used along with other tests like the ESR and CRP to determine if there is an inflammatory illness going on.  Even healty people can have a high ANA test score.  Here is a link from the Mayo Clinic about that.

Remember, too, that fibro is not an inflammatory illness.

I agree with Sherrine...my doctor only ran an ANA test at my insistance stating that it was one the most unreliable diagnostic tool there is.  It can change by the hour and all you need is a hangnail to show a high reading.  If it is consistantly high it could certainly indicate autoimmune so it's good to follow up on it.
