Hi can anyone tell me if fibro is related to MS? A couple of years ago the prof who treated me for fibro said that if it is not treated it could develop into MS. I read that a number of people say that they drop things and I'm the worst for it too. Also the pain and fog and fact that walking is an issue. Just thought I would ask the question.

I have never heard that at all.  MS has many of the same symptoms as fibro and it's one of the illnesses that need to be ruled out before a diagnosis of fibro is given.  You can have fibromyalgia AND MS though.  Many of us have fibro and another illness.  I was diagnosed recently with a disease that causes intense pain throughout the spine.  I did ask if I had fibro, they did the tender point check (which had no bearing on the disease) and I was very tender and they said I do have fibro too.

I also have weakness in both arms, hands and wrists. I have issues some days holding sacks from the stores, pens/pencils, etc. I have had back pain off and on for years but have had severe flare-up over the last couple of months which led to the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia was brought up about 20 years ago, but at that time from a doctor who stated he did not believe in the diagnosis and thus would not diagnosis me with it. At this time, I have fibro, vcd, osteoarthritis, condromylasia (sp?) of the knees and my hips are constantly turning, popping out of place and making one leg longer than the other. Some times it turns so much, and turns the muscles and my tailbone with it that when I set it literally feels as if I am sitting on something sharp. My allergies have also become more severe than they have ever been. They have tried to refer me to pt but it does not even seem to help. I've recently been having to go for chiropractic adjustments for my spine and hips on a weekly basis, but that only helps the hip pain and spinal pain for about 48 hours at most.

Recently had my SED rate done, normal per doctor is 0-10, mine is 23. This rate shows how much inflammation is going throughout the body. Doc says they worry about it once it reaches 30 so they will be keeping an eye on it. Also checked all tender points for fibro to recheck the diagnosis made by previous doctor and confirmed the diagnosis stating that all tender points were positive.

My blood pressure has also been going bonkers - high to low, low to high - without any causes known.

When I was young, I did not feel pain until I was 4 years of age. My mother has said I could place my hand on a burning stove and would not feel it. Then I developed my pain sensories around the age of 4 and was extremely sensitive to pain. Kind of ironic that I went from a point of feeling no pain at all to having chronic pain on a daily basis.

Doc recently placed me on Savella. Hubby says it seems I am a bit more active, but there are still those days that just too stiff, or feel to weak to accomplish anything.

I'm only 35 years old and feel like I'm 110.

I to have fibro and my sed rate has been high for several years and they don't know why. It ranges from like 58 to 95 my rheumatologist told me my muscle enzymes are triple what they should be and that is why I have so much pain but he don't know why so they do nothing. It sucks tho.

I have high inflammation in my body but it's not caused by fibro.  Fibro is not an inflammatory illness so fibro is not causing the inflammation.  Enajones, I would find another doctor.  Just because they can't figure out what is going on doesn't mean you have to suffer in silence!  There are anti-inflammatories that will help. 

 

I take ibuprofen with food for the inflammation and also a muscle relaxer called Robaxin and this combo, along with Tylenol as needed, has really helped me.  These were prescribed by my rheumatologist.

yeah my rhemy is the one that said he didnt know why my sed rate was so high or why my liver enzymes, which he did blood work and said it was my muscle enzymes, were so high. he just decided that i didnt need to come back in unless i needed him. i was thinking i did need u but apparently u didnt think so. hes the closest rheumatologist to me. the other closest is about 2 hrs away and i seen him fist, several yrs ago and he did nothing at all. i had a gp tell me years ago that fibro has no inflammation with it. i use to take inflammation pills but i stayed sick all the time on them so then i ended up laying around all the time trying to keep my food down, i think i almost tried every one of them out there!! of course it usually only brought it down to 48 i think? or maybe 58 i cant remember for sure. it will drop that low on its own at times.
