New here - Numb head and joints

I sometimes get a tingly feeling in the back of my head or numbness,but what you describe makes me think you really need to see your dr asap. I would think you need a brain mri to make sure there is nothing in there like a big syst. It could also be a pinched nerve in your neck causing these things,but it seems to me its something that needs to be checked just incase its not fibro. Fibro is different for everyone though so it's hard to tell.

It's strange because today its been worse. My eyes seem to be shivering and twitching. My head feels numb and vacant if that makes sense.
I'm going to phone my doctor in the morning and get an urgent appointment.

Hi, Becci, and welcome!  Well, we can get the eye shaking sensation with fibro.  We had an older thread about it recently...it's on the second page of the forum but I just put a link to it for you to read.  Hopefully this will allay some of your fears.

I do agree that you should be checked out.  We are not doctors here and are guessing just like you are.  You sound like you have some back issues with the numbness in the extremities, too.  I do get that sometimes and I do have a lot of back issues.  I just shake it off and don't sit in a position that will cause the numbness.  I will awaken sometimes and can't feel my hand...if I was laying wrong on my arm.  Anyway, whatever doctor you go to...a neurologist or a rheumatologist or both would be good...make sure they treat fibromyalgia patients.  Ask first before making your appointment.  There are still doctors out there in the Dark Ages when it comes to this illness. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Good starting links would be Symptoms and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.  You probably will see yourself there.  All the links are good so please read them.  We have to be our own advocates with this illness.

Hi everyone.
Well I realise this is a very old thread but I just wanted to update.
I saw my Doctor who refused to refer me to a neurologist saying that it was "just fibro".

However, in the last 6 months the numbness thing has got worse. Not so much in my head but in my thighs, arms, shoulders, basically what happens is I will be laying in bed in one position and after maybe 20 seconds I get a burning, tingling feeling under the skin. The only way to make it stop is to change position. Sometimes it happens the instant I lay down, sometimes changing position makes no difference and it carries on regardless.
I have also had the feeling on my back, my tummy, my bottom, everywhere!
I can just be sat up on the sofa and I will get the feeling. I have also had it in my groin and in my lady bits.
I have constant floaters in my eyes that are driving me insane! I am an avid reader and it really frustrates me when I cannot see the words because of these black floaters! Occasionally the colour will go from black to a pretty pinky purple colour.

Im no longer a foster carer as my health just wouldn't allow it any longer. It broke my heart to have to quit but I couldn't survive on a hours sleep and then see to a poorly baby all day.

Some good news is that I had surgery for my endometriosis back in October and my surgeon told me it had gone away! I didn't even know that it could do that but im happy it has! He found a jelly like cyst on my ovary at the time so he removed that and I am very happy to say it was not cancerous.

Im on 50mcg of fentanyl patches now and they worked brilliantly for a while but sadly the dose is not high enough but I am loathe to increase it as last time I did that I spent an entire year vomiting up to 20 times a day. Not pleasant I can tell you.
I had various blood tests done last year and all came back fine except for one that showed I had an over active thyroid. It certainly explained the fact that I am unable to gain weight. However when I was retested six months later, it showed I did not have an over active thyroid!
My weight has gone down even more in the last 6 months. At five feet five inches, I weigh just over six and half stone (91lbs), The phlebotomist had to use the child chart to convert my weight from stones to pounds for me!

All in all im in a mess at the moment but my Doctor just wont listen to me. There are several Doctors in my practise but because one wrote on my notes that its "just fibro" none of the others will take me seriously either.
My main concern is the burning numbness thing. Im quite concerned that I may have M.S. given the vision thing and the burning thing along with very shaky hands by the end of each day and the fact that I am so clumsy, my legs don't want to work properly and I find myself constantly forgetting what I was doing or saying. I frequently forget the names of things and forget words. It is so very, very frustrating.

Its 5.30am here and I am yet to sleep. Sleep is not my friend anymore. We were not on the best of terms to begin with but now, sleep hates me!

Anyway I am sorry for going on and on but it feels good to get it all out. So if you made it this far, I thank you for taking the time to let me have a moan.

I would get another doctor, too. When your doctor says it's only fibro ask him, "What if you are wrong?" Doctors do make mistakes. By seeing a new doctor in a new practice, you will be starting fresh.

We do get burning and tingling but what you are describing seems a lot worse. Floaters are common...even with healthy people. I have many myself but I don't notice them now. When I first got them they drove me crazy too but now, once I stopped looking for them, I rarely see them. I love to read also.

I hope you will be able to find a doctor that will listen to you. Not everything is caused by fibromyalgia.
