My name is Laura Pate and I am a 20 year old female. I have extreme fibromyalgia pain and have been suffering from it since age 13.
I have seen multiple children's hospitals, Shriners, neurologists, rheumotologists, orthopedic specialists, physical medicine specialists, psychologists, psychiatrists, had many complete total body tests to check for any other diseases and basically been looked at head to toe. All of the previous doctors have agreed that I do have fibro.
I have the horrible fibromyalgia along with, IBS, sleep apnea, major depression, anxiety disorder, borderline personality disorder, chronic headaches, kidney stones, problems with my ovaries, joint; muscle; nerve; skin pain and chronic tired feeling.
I recently started seeing an internal medicine specialist that is trying to help me control my pain so I can cope, but nothing she has tried seems to be working so she is sending me to a pain management specialist. I am extremely fearful of what to do when I build such a high tolerance that nothing can control my pain. I also attend physical therapy and see a psychologist monthly to control my mental problems.

-I just wanted to put my story out there to see if anyone can relate in any way, and help me cope.. and possibly I could help someone as well. Sometimes you just really need a friend.. and I do right now.

You will find lots of people here that can understand. Some may have some of the problems you have or all! This is a great place to get support! I was DX with fibro in march of this year, but now that I know symptoms I can see I had it many years ago.

I am 36, 3 bio kids 18,15,&11, and a 4 yr old we are in the process of adopting, and a wonderful hubby to be! Living in Fl. And all my meds should be listed below.

You can vent here, sometimes we start a thread of our silly fibro fog moments, or ask advice. Glad you joined us :-)

Hi Laura, we are all so very different with symptoms and what we use to try to control our pain. I hope you can take some time and read the fibro101 thread there is wonderful information there. I am trying to write this as my 2 grandsons and hubby watch tv it's so loud I can not think anymore. Ttyl,

Hi, Laura, and welcome!  Yes, we are all so different.  I personally use ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol, malic acid/magnesium supplements, vitamin D3 supplements, and an alternative product for pain called Curamin.  The only prescription med I take for fibro and an back disease I have is called Robaxin.  I just started that several months ago and it has helped me significantly.  I also do gentle exercises daily...like walking, swimming, or yoga, gentle stretches, and I pace myself when doing things. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Do check out the links called What Else Could It Be and also the links about malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D supplements and how these work in your body.  Deficiencies in these can add to your pain. 

I suggested the What Else Could It Be link because I have had fibro for over 25 years and have recently been diagnosed with a rheumatic back disease that can cause extreme pain.  I always just thought it was fibro causing the pain but I was getting worse and fibro isn't a progressive illness!  So I found an excellent board certified rheumatologist and he ran me through a lot of tests, x-rays, and two MRI's for the new diagnosis.  Once I was given medication for this, I'm feeling so much better.  I know you have been to a trillion doctors but, if you are getting worse, get another opinion.  A lot can happen and change over the years.

I agree that's a lot of drugs!! Way to much for what your DX is. I too am Bi-Polar and Borderline as well as Fibro, EBV/CFS, hypothyroidism and a couple others and I'm not on as much medication as you and while I don't recognize all of them some of the ones I do are duplicates which means they aren't helping you there poisoning you. How many drs. are prescribing to you? You are looking at liver failure, kidney problems not to mention what you are doing to your stomach and yes your nervous system. Please try to get only 1 or 2 drs. prescribing at a time and get off the drugs you don't need. Withdrawal sucks but it beats the hell out of dying.

Welcome to the forums! I can relate in some ways, it can be so frustrating to have painfull illnesses and feel a bit lonely as well at times. The only good thing I've managed to find with all this fibro yet is that it gives a lot of us a good amount of sympathy and understanding. We like to try to help and it helps us to do so. I'm glad you found the forums with having had this illness and others so long your insight could be really helpful here and I'm sure you'll find a bunch of stuff you here you may not of elsewhere.
