Topamax?

Psychiatrist just prescribed this for me. It is an anti-convulsant used in migraine treatment and to limit seizures.

My pharmacist told me that this drug can lessen the effectiveness of birth control pills, and to use a back-up method while on this medication. My doctor did not mention this side effect. I checked the patient literature, and some online sites, and they all mention this birth control issue.

Anyone have any experience with this drug? I have not started it yet. I am headed back to that office for a different appointment next week, and plan to check with the doctor then. However, I am curious about anecdotal experience. I am 43 YO female, who is in a monogamous relationship and wants NO chance of procreation.

Myself- I was given topomax and I hated it. I was using them for migraines from seizures. My vision, concentration was effected a lot. Then it though me into severe depression. I didn't know what was happening at the time and then a light bulb came on in my head. I called my Dr. and told him what was going on and sure enough it was the culprit. I am very senstive to meds. This is why I try to keep my meds more natural.
