I am receiving SSDI, since 2008. I won it with an attorney in a hearing. NOT FOR FIBROMYALGIA though. It was for HepC. Now I have full blown Fibromyalgia as well and I am wondering if anybody out there has had to go thru a review. I've read that if you have more than one health problem your chances of receiving SSDI are much better. I think all SSDI cases go up for review every 3 years, I'm not sure about that but that's when I got my letter. I had 3 surgeries for tendon problems since 2008 and they backed off and didn't bother me. But I worry. I think once you get SSDI, you always have to have a review every 3 years and it's never a done deal until you are 65 and then your SSDI turns into SS payments.

They sent me a piece of paper to fill out for my husband. I filled in the answers to a short review and signed it that he was not better and sent the paperwork back to them.

Boy, I am not sure about this. There are a few threads on getting ssi and ssdi. There might be some help on there. I am in the process of signing up for ssi. I just started. I am not sure about ssdi. Good luck. I am sure having fibro would be in your favor.

My sister has some brain damage from birth. She has been on social security based on my dad for several years. Every so often it comes up for review. Sometimes she gets a phone call and they set up a time for her to have an over the phone interview. I think mom stays on the line to help her as my sister does not always know what they are asking. She answers the questions and gets approved again till next time. This is something that will not get better so going through the reveiw process is silly to me. Once they said they had denied her. my mom called to set up an appeal. They gave her a date that was soon, mom told her that my sister's atty needed time to look over the case. The woman on the phone said, oh she has an atty, mom replied yes. she told mom she would call back. next week they got a paper saying she was approved. not had any problem since.

I was on ssi, and had to answer q's every so often. I was dropped several years ago due to dh's income. now having to go back through all the process to try and get ssdi. Things have gotten worse not better since i had teh ssi. I did not in remarks that i had had it.

I am sure having an attorney is the key.

Hi, High, and welcome!  I received SSDI without an attorney 15 years ago and it has now changed to straight SS since I'm 65.  I never had a review.  I think it depends on what you are getting the SSDI for...if it can be something that can get better.  My illnesses are permanent so they didn't bother with me.

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There are links to good info and you will learn a lot.  We do have to be our own advocates with this illness.

Hmm... I am in the initial application process, but I have a feeling that my Fibro and Depression diagnoses will cause me to have to re-qualify constantly, too, when/if I get to the point of winning. I would say that having an additional disabling illness makes your case stronger, but you may have to go through some hoops explaining Fibro symptoms (and have a rhuemy to back you up) to make things go a little smoother. My condolences for having full blown Fibro on top of everything.

Sherrine, I think of all the things you have, the Ankylosing Spondylitis sounds the worst! And you have such a nice and positive attitude, too. How do you do it? I am so totally defeated and have no self-esteem anymore.
