Hi, my name is Tyler. I am a 20 yr old college junior. I have had FMS for 5 years and was diagnoses with Hypothyroidism in 2010. My meds are listed in my signiture. I feel like the meds are doing less and less but I am trying ky hardest to resist upping and changing meds because I want to be less reliant on medicine, though I know I will have to give in eventually. I have been taking natural supplements to help: CoQ10, Magnesium, Melatonin, Calcium, D3, Folic acid, and a multivitamin. My mom has had FMS for 20 years plus Reynolds. She is way more debilitated she takes methadone, flexaril, trazadone and recently zoloft. She has been on all the meds out there before her current set, but.that list is looong. I am also doing research for my current Honors Thesis on the Longterm Effects of Carbohydrates on the Cognition of Persons with FMS. Thank you for reading!

First off, my heart goes out to you, to have this and be so young.

Nice to meet you and welcome! I just started my first med for fms. Dx 1yr. I'm at a low dose for two months now and im not sure what it is suppose to inhibit, but I dont care for some changes. Hard to explain. Just seems harder to think clearly and keep my hands from double tapping lots of letters (lots of backspace). Reading comprehension is slowed. The changes werent quick to notice, but it makes me think twice. I just upped my dosage by 50% per my docs instructions. In another month I go up some again. That will still be less than recmnd dosage amount for this condition, yet I am already having these symptoms that restrict my ability to live daily life. HHHMMMMM..........Maybe we should both talk with our doctors.

I think your signature didn't show up because you have to check on "add signature" or something like that when you finish your post. If you do a quick reply, I don't think your sig will show up.

I am sorry that you are stuck with the pain of fibromyalgia at such a young age, but you can live a good life despite it. Taking walks, moving around really helps. And as somebody mentioned on another thread, diet helps a lot.

Do check out the thread called "fibro 101" it is full of a lot of good infor that I think you would appreciate.

Hi, Tyler, and welcome!  Well, you take a lot of what I take.  I do not take the typical medications for fibro.  I also use malic acid/magnesium supplements, ibuprofen with food, extra strength Tylenol and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin.  That gave me significant relief from the tight muscles.  Also, I do daily gentle exercses...walk or swim...., gentle stretching exercises, and I pace myself when doing things.  All of this helps control the pain and fatigue. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum.  There is a wealth of info there and you will learn a lot.  We do need to be out own advocates with this illness.

Welcome tylerreedbell- reading your post kind of scares me because I have a daughter. I never had mention that she could develope fibro. I pray she doesn't. I am glad you found this site. It really has given my life back to me. I was in horrible shape and had tried so many meds including heavy narcotics. I started reading post after post. I started a new treatment plan from this site. I found out the more natural I can keep it the better I am. It only took 20 years to find this out. Your lucky in away to get some good options to treat your fibro. Years ago, they only knew how to treat it by narcotics. I am one of those people who it went wrong on. I guess I have a dependent gene. Lucky me! Not good to have when you have fibro. I keep asking why me Lord!

Sounds like you have your hands full with college. The best advice I can give you is stay away from stress! Stress is a trigger for me. I know that is impossible, especially being young. Good luck with your studies. Hope to see you around the site.
