Well, this is a little late for tomorrow but I hope this gives some ideas for other holidays or any time you are entertaining.
I, for one, can't wait and do everything the same day. I get tired easily and this is happening more often as I get older. But, I do have Thanksgiving every year. What I did this year had really helped me. I scrubbed and mopped the tile floors several weeks ago and just needed to touch them up. I also steam cleaned the carpeting a couple of weeks ago....a room a day....so the carpet looks great. I do have my daughter who will run the vacuum and dust tomorrow so that is good.
I make a bread dressing and there isn't anything in it that can't be frozen so I made the dressing and froze it a month ago! I made a turkey last August and froze the broth from the turkey. This morning I took the giblets from the turkey I'll be making tomorrow and cooked them up with veggies and spices, drained the broth and mixed it with the turkey broth that I thawed and proceeded to make some excellent gravy for tomorrow. It's now in the pot in the fridge waiting to be reheated. The dressing is thawed, too. I also peeled my potatoes and they are in a kettle in cold water in the fridge. So tomorrow I really don't have a lot to do. I did make brownies this morning and will be baking a pie tomorrow along with the stuffed turkey. I only need to add a vegetable casserole because others are bringing some dishes, too.
But, just planning ahead really helps me a lot. I'll be able to sit back and enjoy my company tomorrow instead of slaving in the kitchen and trying to clean up all the messes involved. I've done that already!
I have a great red, green and white ice cream pie I do for Christmastime and I'll probably put that together next week. When I had small children at home, I would bake 14 different kinds of Christmas cookies and also make candy. I know. I'm crazy! LOL But many cookies could be made ahead of time and frozen or I could make the dough and freeze it ahead of time, too. I do that with my peanut butter cookies. This helped a lot, too. Just look at all the desserts in the freezer case in the grocery! We can do that for ourselves and not have all the preservatives too. It's a great way to pace yourself.
