Wow, I feel like I'm among friends who understand me. Thanks, Debbie and Joy, for writing.
I am an identical twin and my brother also has IBS-C, but he does not have fibro. His pain is in his shoulders for which he too takes vicodin -- him more than me. At this time, his digestive system is a bit more stable than mine; but then, he didn't indulge for far too long like I did, thinking wheat breads and pasta were okay.
This morning, I had another bowl of oatmeal, with a small bit of oatmeal cereal on top, and almond milk. I took digestive enzymes prior to eating, as I do before most meals, and a simethicone pill afterwards. The latter is a new approach for me. I'm hoping it will eventually stop the belching and gas.
I truly am unhappy with the prospect of losing weight again. On a safer diet, the lbs. fall off of me quickly. Just yesterday, a friend told me, "You really were very skinny before. You look so much better now."
My roommate (former girlfriend, now retired and my closest friend) does most of the cooking around here. Having no restrictions, she will cook great tasting wheat breads and
cookies for her daughter's family and kids, which I gave into for a couple of years. Now I'm truly sowing what I reaped. Today, she said she plans to make a large crockpot of turkey soup with carrots, onions and celery, with no added wheat flour. I'll have it with rice, most likely.
Sleep last night was restful. The added height on my bed may help over time. My fingers are crossed (while I pray). I've had tests for GERD and an endoscopy twice. The first diagnosis was GERD, gastritis, IBS, and hiatal hernia. The second and latest bravo test found I don't have acid reflux, and so doctors now suspect bile reflux, which is why I'm going to have that other test soon. Not much can be done, I've been told, for bile reflux, except, perhaps, a better diet. So what's new?
The fiber drink I prefer is Citracel's old brand that is no longer made, without the orange flavor. The citric acid from the orange caused me problems. GlaxoSmithKline quit making the older brand, so I bought from drugstore.com 25 containers two years ago. The dates are expired and still they work for me just fine. When I switched to senna, I got off the fiber. My mistake.
In Florida, all pain mgmt. physicians are now being micromanaged by the state. Most don't want to take on new patients, while others are attempting to wean most of their patients off vicodin for fear of causing addiction. For the longest time, it was very easy to get any one of those guys to write whatever you thought you needed. Those days are past. The change is causing lots of chronic pain sufferers great anxiety and worry.
BTW, is there an Off Topic section to this board where we can exchange thoughts that aren't health related?
May God intervene,
Dave
Sorry, Dave, I had to edit your post because we can't discuss this on the forum. But if you'd like to email me about it, click on the envelope under my name...some of us can be contacted that way (if you choose to be reachable, your envelope will be colored.)
We do sometimes post threads that aren't on-topic. That's fine. Usually, we'll put "OT" in the title...
Debbie
