I can't handle sleeping pills. They gave me too many side effects and I only slept about 4 hours.
I've been taking melatonin along with l-theanine for years. These are supplements. Our bodies are suppose to naturally produce melatonin but in our later years that can slow down. Melatonin doesn't work for me unless I take it with the l-theanine which helps to relax my sore muscles. One thing that's great about sleep supplements, you can take more in the middle of the night if you're wide awake again.
The supplements don't always work for me. I've found I really have to watch how much I do during the day and if I've done enough, like if I sat around too much which I try not to do. Stretches help me and eating nutritiously. Sugar and caffiene can keep a person awake and there are inflammatory foods too which can disturb your night's rest.
