There is new research showing a genetic link to fibromyalgia on the chromosome 17p11.2-q11.2 at two markers. Just google "17p11.2-q11.2" to see the study I'm talking about
. The sibling recurrence ratio is 13.6 compared to 2% in the general population.
I'm guessing this means that some people are genetically susceptible to fibromyalgia (which makes sense, since my mum has chronic fatigue; also, I have some friends where the father has CFS and FMS, and the son has CFS). This doesn't mean that anyone in your family has to have had it before; there's only a 13.6% chance that people with the gene will get it. For example, none of my 3 siblings have either FMS or CFS - just me.
