Do you have the ability to persevere?

Believing in oneself is a big thing, especially when hit with an obstacle. Having fibro or any other condition can be really frustrating as we all know. Our willingness to help ourself does make a differance in how we live with our condition.

I think it is important to remember to be self compassionate. Giving ourself encouragement and deserved praise helps us become our own best cheerleader. It is also great to be part of this fibro family where we can share, care and encourage eachother.

Just got home last night after a long week of traveling. It will take me some time to get back in the swing of things...I'm in the midst of a bad flare and nursing some kind of crazy cold.  Wanted to stop in and say HI turn

As far as the prompt--Yes, I tend to be a goal-oriented kind of girl, even to my detriment. If I decide to do something, I do it. Having theatre in my background, every obstacle is a change to be a creative problem-solver.

I like having someone (Yaw'l) to understand the condition. It's really useful to know that someone will know what we go through.

Crazykitty, my uncle was recently diagnosed with MCTD and he doesn't know anyone with the illness. I told him about this forum and that I saw that one person had it so he asked me to ask you about it. I think he is scared and really just wants to know how you manage it.

Also, may I ask...how long have you had it?

Liz, Your uncle can meet others with MCTD on Healingwell's Lupus forum.

I was first diagnosed first with UCTD 6 years ago and the diagnosis changed to MCTD almost 4 years ago. All of my conditions, I try to deal with them "ONE DAY AT A TIME."

Keeping my stress level down is one of the most important things...less stress = less pain. Worrying never helps anything. Exercise... for me it's mainly walking is a great stress reliever. It also builds muscle and helps with stiffness. Relaxation therapy, a combo of meditation and deep breathing techniques also helps with stress and pain.

Like with fibro, we are all differant. Medications are trial and error. For MCTD, I have been on prednisone, plaquenil, imuran and now I'm only taking methotrexate. It is an immunosuppressant. I've been fairly lucky that the MTX has been helping some.

Believing in yourself is the best thing :) We are all stronger than we know!

Good point, Robin. We do have to give ourselves pats on the back (extremely gentle ones, that is) or we can so easily get dragged down in the dumps. After all, we deal with so much, day in and day out. And for the most part, the world doesn't recognize this - so we have to!

Robin!  Welcome back.  I was thinking about you while you were gone.  I hope your MIL was better than what you were expecting.  It's a really rough time for  you and your husband, I know.  So, to relax and we are here for you.  You need to keep the stress level down to help with fibo and other things.

 

It is important to acknowledge whatever you do with fibro.  So many times I see people so upset that they can't do the things they used to be able to do.  It's hard but there is a lot you can do with fibro and you can give yourself a pat on the back, too.  You most likely are doing more than many healthy, able-bodied people to begin with!  Me?  There's one thing I used to be able to do but have learned to accept that I can't do it anymore.....moving the piano to clean behind it.  devil    Yes, I used to do that every spring.  Now, I've been in my home for 15 years and the piano is exactly where the movers put it.  turn    Do have some humor with all of this.  If I didn't joke and laugh a lot, I'd be sad, miserable and cry a lot.  Laughing is more fun.

Thanks Myself, and Debbie for the well wishes.

Debbie, the trip was as well as expected. Long airflight, some delays and long car rides. Seeing family was the highlight.

Hubby and I spent the majority of time in Madison, visiting his Mom in hospice...she in literally wasting away...it is so sad. We did drive up to the Green Bay area to visit my Mom and was able to visit with some of my sibs. We spent 2 nights at our daughter's house. It was fun playing with my little grandaughter. Our daughter and grandaughter then drove down to Madison to spend more time with us. It is difficult living so far from loved ones. Pacing oneself is difficult when you want to visit and you only have so much time. Thank goodness for skype.

I feel terribly burnt out right now. Hubby told me to get in to see the doc today...no energy...maybe tomorrow.

Hi Sherrine...we were posting at the same time. Thanks for the welcome back! Yeah, I need to get my focus in order...been feeling out of sorts. Hubby had a weekend planned for us to be in the mountains this weekend. I may be too pooped to relax :)

Hey Robin!!!

Lovely to see your post. You are always so bright and optimistic. I love that in you. Sounds like you had some good times on your travels. That is good. It is always nice to see family and have a little time. I am sorry about your mil. I know how hard it is.

Goal oriented?  Well, my goals are small ones.  The big ones take too much time and are too difficult.  So in order not to fail, I set small goals.  Eventually a big one can come out of a lot of little ones though. 

I don't do a lot.  But I try to keep myself busy.  Sometimes it is on the computer though.  But I do try to move around as much as possible.  I find that it wasn't easy to accept the fact that I cant' do what I use to, but as I think Sherrine has posted so many times, we do what we can do and can still live a fulfilled life.

Thanks for updating us on what is going on. Now is the time to rest and relax. I hope that you have a good night. Take care my friend...

Hi Robin, it's nice to meet you! I joined the forum while you were away travelling.

It is nice to hear your encouraging words. You're corroborating what my tutor told me yesterday and my OT told me the day before that... to be gentle with myself. I'm a perfectionist and have to remember that whatever I can do is good enough.

I hope the flare subsides soon...
