Since last weekend, BF has had a huge infected area on his leg, swollen and mottled. First ER appointment was given antibiotics and told to return to see his doctor ASAP. His doctor suspects Lyme, and put him on a monster-course of antibiotics.

I, of course, get worried because of my MRSA episode four years ago. Now that the swelling is going down, I am relieved.

Of course, I had been trying to get him to go in before his bike tour, but he was trying to weasel out of it. This way, he gets a check-out and doctor's okay. Dude, you're 54. Do it and stop whinging.

Myself, did you post this in the Lyme forum?  My understanding is if you get bitten by a tick, you usually get a bullseye type mark.  The swelling and mottling could be from a different insect and not with Lyme.  I certainly hope that is the case.  I know you two love the outdoors but you really need to protect yourselves since I think deer ticks and Lyme has been found in all of our lower 48 states. 

 

Anyway, check over in that forum.  They could tell you more and might ease your fears.

Sherrine - They first thought it was a spider bite, but the first antibiotic didn't even touch the infection-it was getting worse.

We really weren't in the woods. He was outside alot, riding his bike for hours at a time all over the place, urban, suburban, rural. The closest we got to tick-country was sitting in the grass at a city park for an outdoor concert. Of course, it might have been from earlier.

He is headed for a blood test tomorrow morning, and back to doctor on Tuesday.

Ticks aren't just in the woods.  A dog or squirrel could carry the ticks to your back yard.  I'm really careful about it down here in Florida. 

 

It could be a spider bite.  Some spiders, like the recluse, can be quite nasty.  I hope that's all this is.  If you want to be sure, have blood work sent to Igenex Labs in Palo Alto, California.  They are supposed to be the best labs to diagnose whether or not one has Lyme...the most accurate.
