Elevated Ensymes and Fibromyalsia

I am new to the site and have been dealing with severe muscle pain in my shoulders, hyps and most severe left leg for a little over 5yrs.  Finally someone tested my muscle enzymes and they are a little elevated at 347.  Was referred to the Rheumatologist because doc thought I may have dermamytositosis (or however you spell that) Anyway I have no rash but do have numbness in hands from time to time.  I also have what I like to refer to as brain tingles.  I do get the shakes from time to time and feel extremely dizzy.  The Rhumy thinks I have fibromyalgia.  He determines this because he pinched my boney areas and I said I was sensitive but I am also just as sensitive if you move up or down my muscle.  I have been in bed many times in so much pain I am sobbing.  My hyps seem to be the most painful and all of it is worse when the humidity is bad.  Any ideas?  I just don't agree with the fact that someone pinches me and tells me that I had a bad child hood so I must have Fibromyalgia....

 

Hi, Dontbelievethehype, and welcome! I think you need a new rheumy. I wouldn't waste my time or money on this one. Fibro has many of the same symptoms as other illnesses and these illnesses need to be ruled out first before a diagnosis of fibro is given. There really isn't a good test for fibro. They do check tender points and this is what I think your rheumy was doing. You used to need 11 or more tender points to be diagnosed with fibro but this has changed recently.

With fibro, you have muscle, tendon, and ligament problems in all four quandrants of the body. You can have numbness, buzzing, weird sensations. Doctors are now believing this is a neurological problem. It's definitely not all in your head. Most of us are Type A personalities so we do put more stress on ourselves and stress can cause more pain. I have no idea what he meant that we wanted everyone to like us. And, I had about the best childhood ever and yet I have fibro. So, as I suggested before, find a GOOD board certified rheumy that believes in fibro.

We've all been in your shoes.  We don't look sick so we aren't sick.  But, there is a heap of info in Fibro 101 so please read it.  You just might see yourself there. 

 

At the very beginning of Fibro 101 there is a link taking you to an interview with Dr. Clauw, one of the top specialists for fibro, and he explains what they now think is going on with us.  For many years doctors would tell us that it's all in our head and to see a psychiatrist.  There are still doctors that do that since they are in the Dark Ages when it comes to fibro.  Hmmm....I wonder if they say that to male patients with fibro???

 

Anyway, the good information you will see in Fibro 101 will help you a lot.  We have to be our own advocate with this illness so we need to learn all we can about it.  I've had fibro for 26 years and am still learning new things.  So, happy reading!
