Oxymorphone for fibro pain?

Hi all,

Had an appt with my pain doc (well his PA, same diff) and we revised everything but the Butrans. I am going to try taking Topamax for long term nerve pain coverage (versus my failed gabapentin attempt) and she moved me from vicoprofen to oxymorphine because she thought it would be more effective since my vicoprofen was only lasting a few hours and was giving me heartburn. She also gave me steroid shots on my foreman (brutal tendinitis I think), one in my shoulder and right side of my spine.

Question:
1. How long should the muscle surrounding the injection side be tender? I can barely type this.

2. Also, so far I am not finding oxymorphine to provide any pain relief, just super sleepiness. The thing is that I went to user reviews and everybody said it had less side effects including no sleepiness. Am I doing it wrong? Haha

Uhhh and it also gave me massive munchies. I have a gluten intolerance and just shoved ten Oreos in my mouth. Oops.

just get the gluten free oreos...I find no difference in flavor

That's a whole lot of changes all at once. Makes it hard to know what's doing what - I always try to just change one thing at a time for that reason.

You'll probably have to wait a week or 2 before you can really tell if either of these is doing any good....unless you're having terrible side effects, of course, in which case it just ain't worth it.

Hope things settle down soon and you stop hurting where you got the injections (I HATED those!)

Thanks Debbie. Ya, I had pain in other places too, not just the injection sites. And they are the annoying little fibro stress pains on my tender points which are usually wipe away pretty easily with pain meds. But you're right. Obviously today was pretty stressful as I wasn't actually prepared for the shots and they were a lot more painful than they usually are. Think I'm in the midst of a flare. This weekend is going to be BRUTAL. Come on, opana, help a girl out!

Going from vicoprophen to oxymorphone is a huge jump. It may take awhile before the sleepines goes away. I am surprised she didn't put you on percocet (oxycodone) before the oxymorphone. I sure hope it starts working for you. Sometimes with fibro, nothing seems to work. Sad to say..

I looked up your medication and what you are taking is very strong. Maybe talk to her about a lower dose. The problem with taking these strong narcotics, is that you build a tolerance really easy. And then nothing will work for the pain. I would see about a lesser pain killer and work your way up to the oxymorphone in time. I wish you the best.

Phew! I was about to start calling places and having them stock them.
But! It's a brilliant idea. I read somewhere recently that up to 40% of Americans have some sort of gluten intolerance. Having a house name brand creating GF products would be genius marketing. Shoot, I think I would totally except lower taste quality for it...

Oh and I wanted to give an update. Still not nearly as effective as my vicoprofen. And I did some online research and it turns out that the manufacturers wanted to make it abuse proof so with the additives it is now has 10% bioavailability. Vicoprofen is stronger because our body can actually access the medication. Ugh. So yes I will be calling my doctor on Monday.

Edit: sorry about all the typos. I am always on my iPhone and they make for some interesting autocorrections!
