Newbie here - Switching from Lyrica to Savella

this Friday. Any tips? Worried about the nausea, I always have problems when I switch meds. I also have Chiari Malformation, a brain disorder, so it can be difficult to treat me, but I have a great neurologist.

Am scared for the side effects but thinking it can't be worse than gabapentin, Cymbalta, or Lyrica. Can it? Please help.

I added to your topic title so people would see you're new, and be more likely to stop in and say hi.

Hello, Princesk8. Welcome to the forum!

I can't really advise you on the Savella. But I'm sure others will - I know several people here have experience with it.

Have you checked out "Fibro 101" yet? It's a wonderful resource for all things Fibro. There's a lot there.

Hope you'll keep posting...we'd like to get to know you, and we love to help eachother!

Hi princesk8, welcome to the forum!

I'm lucky not to have experienced any bad side effects from Savella. I've been on it for over 4 years now and it is not giving me the benefits it once did so I hope to wean off it soon. It was never a miracle med for me but did help some. I have the option of having my dosage upped but decided against it.

Initially my rheumy gave me two 2-week titration packs so that I had a full month to get up to the daily dose of 50 mgs 2x daily. I believe that spared me from the initial nausea and dizziness that some have experienced.

Hopefully you have insurance, Savella is expensive. Wishing you the best of luck. we are all so differant when it comes to meds...what works for one doesn't always work for another. good luck :)

I have recently switched from Cymbalta to Savella starting off small then adding up toward the end of the month to 50mg 2xs a day. I have to say that I like it much better then the Cymbalta. I was getting the nausea with Cymbalta cause I didn't work my way up slowly like I did with the Savella.
I hope you have the same luck it's amazing I am starting to feel like me again. (at least most days)

I haven't seen too much information on Savella on the message boards I frequent. I will have to pay attention more to see what others maybe be experiencing.

I do have insurance and have read that a lot of people experience nausea the first few weeks and they can't really eat. I'm really hoping I don't have this problem as not eating makes me hypoglycemic and then I start flaring. I'm trying not to be nervous, but every time I have to switch the side effects are so bad.
