I want to say its fibro but it shouldn't be actually swollen. For instance the other day I was in a flare and had menstrual cramps (lucky me). Because my body was already in duress my brain sent down a pain signal to my hip that basically felt like it, too, was dislocated. Super sharp pain, with intense ache and the only comfortable position was for me to lay ON it, on my side. Anything else made it worse. Took something to knock me out (this was mid day but had I not known it was fibro I would have gone to the ER - so I didn't care about knockin myself out with Valium), and when I woke up two hours later it was totally fine! It was so strange.
Or was it? My mind went to the 'I'm overwhelmed with too much pain stimuli so I am going to top it because I can't help myself'. Once I calmed my mind, inadvertently with the Valium, my hip was fine. So that's my suggestion. Calm the mind and the pain will follow. At least with those super bizarre one offs. I mean, I could barely walk, pain meds were not touching it, it was that bad. But no swelling of any kind!
Stupid brain.
