Welcome, sorry about the diagnosis!
I am an avid exerciser, so here is my take on it.
I find that low impact helps me maintain longer workouts. I can raise the intensity as it suits me, without so much impact on my joints/muscles. I use an elliptical rather than a treadmill. I do deep water aerobics with a float belt, rather than laps or shallow water aerobics. I walk, bike, and hike in season.
It does take time to adjust the workout, and time to become aware of the messages your body is sending. Perhaps if you keep a journal of workouts, and a check-in on pain levels for some time after, it will give you a better idea of your response to the exercise.
If you are feeling pain afterwards for some time, then you are likely overdoing it. Perhaps try a different activity. Or take breaks.
