Slight squeeze-upper center chest

Iv had a hiatus hernia for years now, but at 58 when I get chest pain I go and get checked out. The other day I went in and had 3 EKG's and 2 triponine blood tests done within 10 hours and everything looked good...I also had a stress echo 4 years ago, and my cardiologist said my heart it solid...I must have aggravated the hernia in the last few weeks because its been acting up for 2 weeks now, severe burping, nausea, gas and so on...Today after walking 3 miles or so and burping the whole way I had some kind of spasm in my upper center chest ... like a slight brief squeezing, and then it just went away, no pain, no other symptoms...I have had this a half a dozen times over the years and once I was even waring a haltop monitor at the time...Anyone else ever get this kind of symptom?

I'm not a doctor and am guessing like you are but I do get tightness and soreness in my chest and was thoroughly checked out, too. I have costochondritis that causes this. There is a link all about it in Fibro 101 so you might want to go read that and see if this is what you are experiencing. I usually can tell because if I press on the sternum, I'm tender. Sometimes it hurts to breathe for me when I'm having a flare of this also.

But, whenever in doubt, do get checked out. Let us know what you find out because we really do care about you.

Yes, good idea to get it checked out.

When my gastritis was at its worse, it was somewhat like that. I could feel the pain rising in my stomach, higher and higher (very strange to describe!). When I had my first bout, before it was diagnosed by an upper endoscopy, I was afraid I was having a heart attack.

Have you had an upper endoscopy? I had one done a couple years ago, just after having a colonoscopy. Since I was almost asleep, I don't remember a thing about either procedure! I was relieved to finally find out what was going on.

Hope things are better soon.

Hi, Jazzlyric.

That would be unsettling! Since you just got checked out, and you feel fine now, you're probably ok. But then again - have you called your doctor about this episode? I always feel better after running things by my doc....

My hubby, who's 60, has a hiatus hernia too (though he tends to forget it,  rolleyes  ) GERD, and Barrett's Esophagus. I tell him to let other people take the trash and recycling out, etc, but he claims he can do it. I maintain that he shouldn't.

Do you still do things like that?

I do, Im pretty sure I jarred it back out lifting a 50 lb bag over my shoulder 2 weeks ago...You would think Id learn...

Have you considered having surgery to fix your HH?
I had my reflux and HH fixed at the same time.
