anyone with family members with the disease?

I have fibro and CFS. My 21 year old is showing signs of flares as well. The main one was headaches, muscle aches and stomach issues. Now he has muscle spasms just like mine.

Has anyone had an issue with siblings/family/ or kids having this disease. I do wonder if it's genetic.

I've read that kids of Fibromites are 50% more likely to develop Fibro than the general population. Of course, who knows....

I worry about my youngest daughter, too, because she has a tendency to get random pains and fatigue. But I don't talk about it with her, because worry sure isn't going to do her any good.

Sometimes, I speculate about my mother, too. She had some pretty suspicious symptoms, such as widespread pain and fatigue, and lots of stomach problems.

Let's hope not on all our accounts!

My GP (PCP) advised me that The Mayo Clinic website is a good and dependable source for medical information on the internet. I did a search there regarding genetics and Fibro. I sometimes worry about my 23 year old daughter too. I found this response to my search:

Doctors don't know what causes fibromyalgia, but it most likely involves a variety of factors working together.

These may include-

Genetics - Because fibromyalgia tends to run in families, there may be certain genetic mutations that may make you more susceptible to developing the disorder.
Infections - Some illnesses appear to trigger or aggravate fibromyalgia.
Physical or emotional trauma - Post-traumatic stress disorder has been linked to fibromyalgia.

Sorry to be the bearer of possible bad news. I’m not mentioning this to my daughter either. Don’t know if it’s a good or bad idea though. Neenaa

Thanks guys! I was not sure. I've never complained about my pain or issues to him, and the other day he described his muscle pain and it's the same as mine. I wanted to cry. The good news is that we can help each other through it..

I have a nephew and a niece with fibro (from 2 different sisters). It seems to affect them worse than mine, mine came on in my 60s after a very stressful job.

Looking back, I am sure my mother had it. If someone hugged her too tight she would wince. She needed to pace herself the way I do now. My two younger sisters have also been diagnosed within the last 5 years. Yes, I think genetics must play a role.
