Just wanted to say hi. I am glad my Dad ran across this site and suggested it for me. I have been going through a very difficult time in the last 3 years but the last year has been nearly unbearable. I just recently had to stop working. Between the severe 24/7 pain, migraines, panic attacks and depression added to the fact that I am sick all the time with something...I just couldn't keep going. I miss my coworkers and my job because I truly enjoyed it- however I don't miss feeling like I'm letting people down by calling out all the time. Well thanks for listening. Tried not to go overboard with all the details. Looking forward to chatting with everyone. Prayers for all my new fibromyalgia friends.

Hello, alioop.
Welcome! Too bad you had to quit your job - that happens to a lot of us, unfortunately. Others manage to keep going.
I don't work, for all intents and purposes - well, I do substitute teach once in awhile, but so seldom that I really can't consider myself working. But I will say that when I do manage to do it, it gives me a lift and a sense of purpose. Since you said you miss your job, is there anything you could do on a fill-in or volunteer basis?
Let me direct you to our 1st thread, "Fibro 101." You'll find lots of great help there - links to articles about
symptoms, coping skills, treatments, explaining Fibro to others, and a lot more.
I hope to hear more from you soon - we are here for you.
Debbie

HI there,
Welcome to the forum!!! Debbie, I think I am following you around. Not trying to be a stalker...
Alioop, I am glad you found us. We will all help eachother get through the tough days.
I don't work either. I did for awhile with fibro, couldn't do the winters.
I hope that this is a good day for you...
Hugs, Karen...

There's a lot of information on this site. Information is power.
I have a long list of things to ask my doctor this time.
I can forget I have it when I'm distracted. It's hard but if you have a good support system (like this site) and my husband you can muddle through. There are a lot worse things to have.

Welcome! At least you stop work before things got severe. I remember working until I fell into a deep depression with so much sickness. It took me to be on my death bed to stop work. It's a shame we have to do that. I hope you don't have to worry financially by stoping work.
This is a great place to learn and receicve support for your fibro. It took me a few years to get my feet back under me, but I am still unable to work. Feel free to ask questions. Hope to see you around.

Hi, Alioop, and welcome! I missed your post! I'm sorry...just didn't see it.
Hopefully we can give you suggestions so that fibro will not be debilitating for you anymore. I was a mess when I first came down with fibro but have done a lot of reading and trying things to see what works to keep my pain under control and now I'm doing so much better.
I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has helped me significantly. I also walk for a half an hour daily, swim in good weather, do daily stretching exercises, and pace myself when doing things. If you sit or lay too much you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. Unfortunately, what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another so it's more a trial and error type thing. But you will get a lot of suggestions on this forum and give you ideas as to how to help yourself get up and back enjoying your life again.
When I started my daily walking, I only could walk four houses down and had to turn around if I wanted to make it back home. I was surprised but didn't give up and headed out the next day and could go a little further. I kept that up and now I can walk pretty good distances. I just limit my daily walks to a half an hour because I usually have too many things to do now.
Pacing myself helps, too. I take care of my own home but never try to clean the whole house in one day. I will pick a room or maybe decide to dust everything one day, run the vacuum another, etc. It all gets done but in a different time frame.
By the way, I saw in another thread that you are confused about
what a flare is. We all have chronic pain but sometimes we get even worse pain. We can get this usually from overdoing but sometimes we don't know what is causing the extra pain. Yes, it's a pain! But since fibro waxes and wanes, we know we will improve again. Flares can last a day, a week, or even months. I used to be in a constant flare in the summer...all the rains did it to me. But since I started taking a muscle relaxer I have been doing better in the summer. I hope this explains this for you.
If you haven't already, read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about
fibro and you will learn a lot there. We do have to be our own advocates with this illness so you want to learn all you can about
it.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
