My doctor is trying to get me to start taking Nortriptyline. Is anyone here taking this medication and how is it working. I read the side effects and they really scare me. I have told him repeatedly that I don't want to take it and he keeps pushing me. He said he has started me on the lowest dose of 10mg and it will be ok. Please if anyone has taken it let me know what you thought about it.
Hi
I was put on a high dose of this tryclidyde thirty yrs ago for non normal trigeminal nerve pain, wow, it sucked for me.
I experienced a kind of cognitive wall of memory. This went on for several months. Then I was put on Elavil, same family; originally they were both used for seizures. The new type in this family of SSRI's do the same and more even at lower dosage. Also, they never allowed me restorative sleep. Actually I had nightmares and this trapped body paralyzingly effect, I could not wake up, I was frozen. So weird.
Apparently I fall in that odd outlier realm that maybe 5% experience.
Don't use my experience as your ruler. Perhaps the newer Cymbalta or Lyrica will work better for sleep. I would also talk to dr about
other, additional meds or techniques to relieve pain and get sleep.
